AUGUST 12 -- UPDATE!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!
WE HIT THE GOAL!
There is still another week left to receive pledges - anything above and beyond will continue to give me the space to create this eBook and write my third book with Thomas Nelson. (And honestly, it will probably go to fund a new computer, as my three-year old refurbished Macbook has a shattered screen...trust me, it's fun to use! :)
Anyway....I will do a video update when the project ends next week but THANK YOU A GAZILLION for believing in this art, and in me to take it from point A to point B. I will not let you down!
xxoo SO MUCH LOVE!!!! xxoo
It's been almost a year since I released my last book, Permission to Speak Freely: Essays and Art on Fear, Confession and Grace, and one thing is for certain...
I. Need. To. Write.
I'm working on my third book which will explore the importance of fully living in the present moment. That book will release by Spring 2013 thanks to the fine folks at Thomas Nelson Publishing.
But in order to do write that book, I need your help. Allow me the grace to be frank with you. There's no book advance sitting in my bank account. No consistent form of income as I'm jumping back into the waters of freelance writing and speaking.
I'm in an interlude.
The two consistent things I have are my drive to create something beautiful and you, my community of friends and readers that I'd like to bring along with me on the next journey.
In return for your participation, I'm designing an exclusive eBook full of fifteen years worth of my art (poems, essays, lyrics, photos and stories) that I'd like to share with you.
This eBook, called Interlude, is a collection of poems, lyrics, essays and photography created by yours truly over the last fifteen years.
Not only that...Interlude contains the personal stories behind the writing. Watch the video if you haven't already for an example of what this will look like.
What was it that inspired a certain poem? What's the story behind a particular photograph? What fears were haunting me as I processed by writing an essay? There are universal truths in all of us that are awakened by poems and songs and pictures. So hopefully, with each page, you'll also see yourself.
(Here is the poem referenced in the video:)
It's art - not only in word or photos, but also in design. My career background is in graphic design, so this book will be beautifully structured. The composition of typography, layout and color will be its own work of art.
How this helps me...
Out of sheer necessity, I had to transition from writing and speaking full time to more office-type jobs. My emotional energy and creativity have to go 100% into wherever I am spending my time...which, for the past several months, have been extremely limited to business hours. I can't write during that time.
Don't get me wrong. I've been writing in the mornings, late into the night, and furiously on the weekends as that is the only time I have had to do such things.
As much as I have liked having the consistency of a scheduled job and a scheduled paycheck, I simply must write.
So, with a big, deep breath I am jumping back in...eyes opened, and heart beating out of my chest. I've spoken to my current employer about my transition, so, there's no turning back now.
Many times I've said from the stage, "Your job is not your provision...the God who gave you that job is your provision. It's your responsibility to be obedient and it's His promise to provide."
Time for me to practice what I preach.
With the guidance from an "advisory team" I have in my life, I have neutered my budget to a bare minimum in order to have the freedom to not need a lot of income and just be available to write. On a side note, I'm happy to share this budget with anyone who asks if it makes you feel more comfortable knowing. To keep my bills paid and my body fed, I need to make $2250/month.
What I'd love to do is raise enough money for a year (that's $27,000) but with Kickstarter, it's all or nothing - and nothing is not an option for me. So, I've set my goal to raise enough money through the end of 2011.
I hope Interlude inspires you to write, take pictures, sing, play, live, give, and love...regardless of if you're in the beginning, stuck in the confusion of the middle, or at the end of something.
Thanks for being an integral part of my story. You're allowing these experiences to be shared with others. You're helping people not feel alone. You're helping them be inspired.
You are a part of this...a part of my story...and a part of the larger narrative of the world.
By contributing, you're helping me have the necessary time to process and write and learn and craft and explore and pray and live my own message. You're helping me not only create this eBook, but giving me a huge gift by allowing me time to really spend creating my third traditionally published book. I don't want to write some contemporary, how-to, heard it all before book...I want to write something truthful and timeless.
And the only way to do that is by, with God's help, having enough time to pour into it. You're giving me that gift. And I can't say thank you enough for that.
