About this project
December 4, 2012Thanks to our amazing supporters and backers, we were able to reach our goal in the first 10 days of the campaign. Each additional dollar raised will go toward serving our mission of inspiring more women to bike.
With 3 days left, we're so close to our reach goal of $25,000.
If we are able to reach this amount, we will increase production quantities, allowing more women to have access to well designed clothing for everyday biking. Meeting this next goal assures our continued growth and a sustainable business model for Iva Jean. With a larger inventory, these pieces will continue to be available online and in stores near you. It also means that we can use revenue from the sale of this line to continue research, development and design of new and exciting products that support our mission.
Thank you, once again,
IVA JEAN IN THE NEWS
At Iva Jean, we know the joy of riding a bike. We know the satisfaction of a sunrise commute and the happiness in an afternoon ride to meet friends. We believe every woman deserves to experience the thrill.
That’s why Iva Jean focuses on providing the products and resources that inspire women to BIKE EVERYWEAR.
ABOUT IVA JEAN
I started Iva Jean in early 2010 to encourage women to get on a bike and ride with the style, personality
and confidence they bring to every other aspect of their lives.
Over the years, biking has become a huge part of my life. The more comfortable I became, the more I realized that I didn’t need to become a sports enthusiast or wear head-to-toe spandex to ride. Today, I bike in everyday clothes and at a pace I feel comfortable with – I take in the joy of seeing the city from a different perspective and giving a nod to ladies looking chic on their bikes.
I believe that while we shouldn’t have to buy a lot of gear to ride, the items that we do buy should be functional and fashionable, working on and off our bikes.
Working closely with designers, seamstresses and manufacturers in Seattle, I launched the Rain Cape in Fall 2011. Around that time, Iva Jean was selected as the Fashion Grand Prize Winner in DailyCandy’s Start Small, Go Big contest. Since then, Iva Jean has received both local and national press, with features in Momentum and Seattle Met Magazines, A Cup of Jo, Lovely Bicycle!; and showing at Model Citizens NYC, San Francisco Bike Expo’s Pedal Savvy and Seattle Magazine’s The Forecast.
IVA JEAN. SPRING 2013.
Over the last year, my team and I have been working to expand our line. The design of the Rain Cape has been improved and we have developed several new pieces including the Reveal Skirt, Daily Blouse, and Two-way Reflective Vest. These pieces are the foundation for any woman looking to build a street-to-bike wardrobe.

WHAT IS KICKSTARTER?
of creative projects are funding on Kickstarter at any given moment.
Each project is independently created and crafted by the person behind
it. The filmmakers, musicians, artists, and designers you see on
Kickstarter have complete control and responsibility over their
projects. They spend weeks building their project pages, shooting their
videos, and brainstorming what rewards to offer backers. When they're
ready, creators launch their project and share it with their community.
Every project creator sets their project's funding goal and deadline. If people like the project, they can pledge money to make it happen. If the project succeeds in reaching its funding goal, all backers' credit cards are charged when time expires. If the project falls short, no one is charged. Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing.
Risks and challenges
Material Sourcing // I have high expectations for each of our products. I work hard to ensure that each Iva Jean product is made using high quality materials from trusted sources. I am closely tracking all of our needs and I am working closely with trusted reps and vendors to have the highest quality materials on hand when we are ready to go to production.
Production Scheduling and Management // Managing production will be a bit different from our first two rounds of the water resistant Rain Cape. This time I will be coordinating the production of four products and will be working with two separate cut/sew contractors in Seattle. While this adds complexity to the process, it also ensures that each product is assembled with the appropriate care and expertise. I have worked with Unique Textile Experts during the production of the Rain Cape and will be working with them again in the production of the Waterproof version of the cape as well as the Two-way Reflective Vest. I am working with Kim Productions for the first time in the production of the Reveal Skirt and Daily Blouse. They have a strong reputation in the Pacific Northwest and have worked for brands such as Prairie Underground. To meet this challenge, I have begun to work with each contractor to closer define schedules, needs and estimated delivery. I will also have much more time to dedicate to production management during this run.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
