THE PROJECT.
I started this Pointe of View project photographing ballerinas at the end of last year. There is something so indulgently pretty about ballet; something so beautiful about the challenge of expression through such a tightly structured form; and something so human amidst this struggle for perfection. From the start, the project kind of took off and led me to places I didn't even expect.
In the last year, I've now photographed over fifteen dancers in cities from San Francisco to the countryside of Ireland, and soon, I'll also be in Kyoto, Japan, doing a shoot in the middle of winter. The images have been so warmly welcomed by so many, I finally decided it's time to turn this little passion project of mine into a finished, tangible product-- a beautiful art book.
THE BOOK.
I found an amazing book printer right here in the Bay Area, and I could not be luckier. They specialize in beautiful photography books, and I will be working with them one on one to create a high quality art book. It will be a hardcover gem that will really hold its own on bookshelves and coffee tables, and it will feature all of my favorite images from the Pointe of View series.
THE REWARDS.
While the book itself will be the main goal and the reward for the $50 and higher levels, I am also offering beautiful prints, personalized portrait sessions, and at the highest level, complete behind-the-scenes access with travel included! Read more about each of these rewards to the right.
THE IMAGES.
Below are just a few of the images from the series:

Risks and challenges
The major risk in this project is not getting funded. Kickstarter is all or none, so if the $5000 goal isn't reached, I won't get any of the funding toward the books. I am not pricing these books to make a profit, but I will need to place a bulk order in order to keep the costs low, so the $5000 is designed to help me order a set of 50-100.
Other things are bound to go awry, but I feel ready to take them on. This has been my passion project for the last year, and I still absolutely love working on it. It's the kind of thing that has returned me to my roots as an artist, and it's generated more inspiration and energy for me than I can ever repay to it. I'm just looking forward to see where this is all going to lead, and I'm really thankful for all of your support and the opportunity to share it with you!
