Top ten at ArtPrize
Here's some info and photos on 5 of the top 10.
Check out the crowd--here to see the top ten and vote for their favorite. This is the second round of votes and it determines who wins $250,000, $100,000, $50,000 and $7,000 for the 4th through 10th places.
1.The bears are all carved with a chain saw by a local Michigander. I like the way he used the fountain to place all the bears. I think this one will win top three because the public loves it.
2.Rain is my favorite and is the one with hundreds of little gold squares. It's suspended from the ceiling and moves with the air current and reflects the light.
3.The bust of Gerald R Ford is displayed in a weird plexiglass case which is shown in the first photo. The second shows a close-up of the plastic bust. It's creepily realistic.
4.Tempest is a huge paper installation with four giant sheets of paper that are each hand cut with delicate intricacy. You can see the artist explaining how she spent 300 hours working on a table with an x-acto knife.
5.Metaforest is a mosaic mural with clay and mirrored tiles assembled by a group of students. The artist worked with them to create this 1800 square foot mural. The last photo shows the dimension. I think this one might end up in the top three.
