Make 100 is a Kickstarter initiative focused on editions of 100.
The Women's Wisdom Project is a collection of 100 different papercut portraits of women. As a writer and artist, I often look to other woman for inspiration and guidance. The goal with this project is to do just that, profiling insightful, strong, courageous women throughout history and the wisdom that they have to offer. I make each portrait from a single piece of paper and each one is handcut.
As part of this project, these papercuts will be turned into a series of limited edition cards and prints that you can access by becoming a Kickstarter backer.
This is an ongoing project, intended to amplify the stories and voices of women, and I look forward to seeing how it develops.
Why support this project?
Women deserve to be heard, we deserve to have a voice. Hearing the voices of others also empowers us to find our own. This is why I want to create work to showcase women from around the world - and throughout history - and their wisdom.
Supporting this work means supporting the work of women throughout the ages and amplifying their voices. The project will honor women of the past and women of the present, and I would also like this project to inspire community support for women overall, encouraging people to support women's work in their local communities. Throughout the course of the project, I will highlight these stories and the artwork on my website annabrones.com and on social media channels.
Supporting this project also means that you get to follow along during the entire process. I will be sharing behind the scenes work, quotes and things I find along the way.
As a supporter, you also get to take part of the production of the project. If you have an inspiring woman or quote you would like to be considered, I'd love to hear about her! At the end of the project when all 100 portraits are completed, I will post all 100 portraits and have YOU vote on which ones you like the most. The top 10 will be turned into a set of limited edition cards, and I will also do a selection of art prints.
Because I believe in art for everyone, I would like to make a few of the portraits available as downloadable posters. The idea is to make these free and available to the public, perfect for marching, placing on the wall in a classroom to use as a teaching tool, or hanging up around your neighborhood.
By supporting this work, you are voicing your support of women everywhere.
When I complete the portraits I will be making a series of cards and prints for Kickstarter backers. As the project evolves, I may use the work to make more things (zine, journals, calendar, etc.) but these are the rewards that will be available to initial Kickstarter backers as a thank you for supporting the project.
Thank You Postcards - a thank you note written on a postcard featuring one of the portraits.
Set of Limited Edition Women's Wisdom Cards - a series of ten 5x7" cards featuring the portraits selected by the backers. This will be a limited edition set, with only 100 available.
Women's Wisdom Prints - 8x10" digital prints of a selection of the portraits. Backers will be able to choose which print they would like from the selection.
Original Papercuts - I want to keep part of the work in order to be able to use it in future exhibitions, in order to continue amplifying the stories of these women, but I am offering up 50 of the papercuts as rewards. Once the project is completed, I will select the 50 papercuts that I will make available, and backers will be able to choose from the selection on a first-come, first-served basis.
Commissioned Papercuts - Have a woman that inspires you? I will work with you to produce a large format papercut featuring a woman and quote of your choice. This is a chance for a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork made specifically for you, and designed to fit the specifications of where you would like to showcase it.
If the campaign reaches $4,000, ever person who has backed at $30 or more will receive a custom Women's Wisdom Project notebook, printed by Scout Books in Portland, Oregon.
This is an ongoing project that will last throughout 2018, encouraging people to continue to engage with women's stories and continue to build support for women worldwide. With your help, I can bring this project to life.
Thank you for following and supporting the project and women's voices.
