Just a bike light?
If you're a cyclist, you'll know that bike lights are both life savers as well as one of cyclist's least favourite accessories. They're prone to getting stolen, broken, left at home, wasting time, and generally being an overall pain in the @**. Not to mention, 98% of them are downright ugly. Did I mention how irritating they are to attach to the bike? And ugly.
Until now... Meet Lumineer.
Lumineer molds right into your bike's frame, replacing your bike stem. Why is this cool?
It becomes a part of your bike so thieves don't even notice there's something to take. To steal the Lumineer, you have to dismantle the whole front of the bike. Lumineer is also easy to switch off and on and change modes while you ride. You won't have to bend to reach it, or flounder to find the switch. You just press the light face and get on with peddling.
Lumineer is made out of a single piece of milled Aluminium, and is strong enough to deserve its place in your bike's frame. Unlike the run-of-the-mill plastic lights, Lumineer won't break easily or get damaged in the rain. Seriously, if you manage to break Lumineer, we want to hear the story.
Lumineer can't get left behind anywhere you don't leave your bike. So you'll never be caught awkwardly (and dangerously) out after dark without a safe way to get home. So go ahead, get spontaneous, and explore the night. Incase that doesn't impress you, Lumineer also has your back incase you need an emergency phone charge. Plug it right into the micro usb port underneath the stem and you'll have 3.6V-2500mAh of battery power to keep your lifeline alive.
I'm a designer. I like things to look as good as they work. Why would you pay for an expensive bike, and ruin it with accessories that look cheap, and take away from the beautiful, clean lines of your bike? Iron Man's Arc Reactor isn't held together by plastic, is it?
We don't want to bore you with all the technical jargon, but here's some useful tit-bits to know.
By creating a unibody structure to hold all the circuitry we manage to fit all the necessary parts into the front stem. Seriously. No wires. No switches. No jokes.
By Doing this we end up with a clean, unobtrusive design, which is both beautiful and functional.
Lumineer uses a rechargeable Li-ion battery, which you can clip out from the underside of the stem and bring to charge at any plug point using a micro USB charger. Or, if you carry a power pack for your phone, you can always charge Lumineer on the go. So go ahead, love the planet a little more. She deserves it.
The Lumineer doesn't just work for you at night. You know that paralysing moment when you realise your phone is nearly out of charge, and you left your charger at home? A charged Lumineer can double as a power pack for your smart phone, and give you that boost when you need it. Talk about having your back. :)
Not that you really need to know this, because Lumineer fits on practically every bike with a stem measuring 22-26mm or 31-33mm. But we think it's a cool infographic.
Fits them all. Well almost all..
The Lumineer comes in two sizes : 22-26mm as well as 31-33mm. This would mean that the Lumineers fits almost all bikes.
Ease of Battery Re-Charge
Lumineer uses Li-ion rechargeable battery (3.6V-2500mAh), chargeable by USB 2.0. It's as easy as charging your phone. The battery uses a single clip mechanism at the bottom of the stem.
Prototyping and Testing
We prototyped and tested a whole array of new and existing products to see the pitfalls and the benefits of certain designs. By doing this we were able to fine tune our design and conceptualise a design which has no external added switches or wires. Creating something simple is really difficult. Testing on Chromeo and Eleanor
We chose two of the best looking bikes we know to test Lumineer both for functionality as well as aesthetics.
Adjusting the Light angle
There is a +/- 7 degree rise which has been factored into the stem which allows you to angle the stem and light in the position desired. Flip the stem and you'll be able to change the angle of the beam. Apart from this you also have more than 10degrees of play by adjusting the top and bottom screws. The Clamp system has been designed to include this adjustment.

Acrylic lens itself is also not just a flat plastic disc. Many of you have been asking how Lumineer takes on the challenge of non-standard stems that point upwards. Since no one is buying Lumineer to illuminate the Bat Beacon, we thought we should keep you rest assured that we’ve thought of how to keep your light appropriately grounded. Lumineer uses an acrylic prism lens that reflects the light from Lumineer's LED chamber towards the ground in front of you, and not towards on coming traffic, or the sky.
