R.I.P. - Rest in Plants: carnivorous plant enamel pin set
These enamel pins will showcase a carnivorous pitcher plant and the shrew species that associates with it - stylish and educational!
I'm Arras, a zoologist, and my friend SEM is a certified botanical illustrator. We love to make things together! So we combined my interest in inter-species interactions and SEM's love of cool and creepy plants to bring you Rest in Plants, an enamel pin set!
The set features two pins:
- Nepenthes distillatoria, a pitcher plant species endemic to Sri Lanka. This pin will be 1.5 inches tall, and will have two posts.
- A tree shrew (Tupaia montana) skull. This species shares a special (and weird) relationship with the pitcher plant Nepenthes lowii, a close relative of N. distalloria. This pin will be 0.75 inches across.
Both pins will be produced in antique gold with soft enamel.
If you want to support us but don't want to buy any pins, there is now a tier for a thank-you card with an inked sketch of your favorite animal (real or fictional) by zoologist Arras Wiedorn!
There are also just three slots available for beautiful, custom watercolor botanical illustration painted by SEM! Two 5x7 inch and one 8x10 inch slots are available. Here are a few examples:
Risks and challenges
I have previously worked with the same company to produce enamel keychains, which looked great and were successfully delivered as rewards of a previous Kickstarter that I ran (Losing Altitude collaborative art book, which included beautiful red owl keychains designed by Cari Corene). I already have approved proofs and quotes for both pins - they are ready to go into production as soon as funds are cleared.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
