About this project
Petri Wars is a game for 2-4 players, ages 13+. Play time is approximately 30-60 minutes.
An experimental strain of bacteria is ready to be put to the ultimate test. Facing it are other hostile and deadly creations ready to wage war over the petri dish using all the tricks and adaptations at their disposal for survival. Can you guide your creation to victory? Are you ready for an epic battle of microscopic proportions?
ABOUT PETRI WARS & ADG
In Petri Wars, players collect and expend food to grow larger, migrate throughout the dish to gain strategic position, and attack other cells. Each time you add a new cell it will have a hidden special ability, such as an added attack strength or a defensive capability. Choose wisely though, as you can only use the ability of each cell once per game.
Players gather DNA by growing their organisms to occupy as much space as possible in the dish, destroying and assimilating enemy cells along the way. The Bacteria with the most advanced DNA at the end of the game wins!
The game box will contain:
- Game board
- 84 Tokens (21 bacteria tokens per player)
- 40 Wooden Cubes (1-food and 5-food counters)
- 30 Tokens (1-point and 5-point DNA markers)
- 12 Tokens (Infection marker)
- 12 Mutation cards
- 4 player screens / player aids
- Color rulebook
Each turn, players will have to make the difficult decision between keeping their cells together in larger colonies to gather DNA or spreading out to gather more food for the next turn. Food is gathered for each individual organism, and DNA for every third cell in each group. Your food fuels all of your actions; use it for:
Mitosis - Grow a new cell from an existing one. These cells come in to play face down, and their hidden ability can be activated to spring deadly surprises on your opponents.
Migration - Use your flagella to gain strategic position.
Attacking - Surround and overwhelm cells to infect them, destroy them, or even assimilate them into your own colony!
Disinfection - Clean up your cells that have become paralyzed with infection, preventing them from being easy targets for destruction and assimilation.
Mutation - Use specialized cells to implement your strategy!
Mutant cells make use of the Mutation cards. Each player chooses to utilize one or both of their Mutation options in conjunction with their standard cells, making each game experience unique.

Angry Duck Games was founded in 2011. You may have seen us at conventions such as GenCon, Origins, DexCon or Metatopia testing various game ideas. Our first game, “Student Bodies”, was published by Smirk & Dagger Games in August of 2014.
Below are the members of Angry Duck Games LLC. With over 50 years of combined gaming experience, these individuals are dedicated to bringing you the most unique and creative ideas in modern tabletop gaming. Here’s the team:
Risks and challenges
Unexpected challenges can come up in any project; however, with six team members plus a vast network within the tabletop game industry we are confident that we will meet every challenge that arises.
We have playtested the game with many different groups of people. We have extensively researched both the cost of manufacturing and of domestic & international order fulfillment. We have collected all of the art and iconography that the game requires, and we have done the preliminary layouts for printing.
Our Kickstarter goal is reflective of the minimum requirement to print our game. While we have a marketing plan in place - including partnering with ENVOY - our initial campaign funding will just cover the manufacturing and fulfillment of our backers' rewards. We will keep our backers informed of the project's progress throughout, as well as share any new opportunities that come along.
We kept our non-game rewards to a minimum to ensure we put the bulk of our focus on bringing you a game that is deeply strategic, highly re-playable, and most of all... really fun!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
