It is often eluded that every modern generation takes for granted the wisdom of its elders. Yet the importance of this issue didn’t hit home until we met 90 year old impressionist painter, Harry Somers.

For the first time in his life, Harry would talk about growing up in Zweibruecken, Germany, in the shadows of the Nazi Socialist Party, barely escaping to Australia, and losing almost every relative to the death camps of the Holocaust.

More than anything, Harry would give his two cents about the beauty of life, hope, death, survival, forgiveness, coming to terms with his own mortality and about the best frankfurter he ever had in his life.

Though diagnosed with a terminal condition, his memory is remarkable and clear. He speaks with such eloquence and historical detail. He holds no hatred or regrets.

Produced by Sandri Valente, Directed by Erik Angra

WILL YOU JOIN US?

We have set up rewards for our backers, we hope you will find something that appeals to you in some way that we can reward you for your generosity toward this project.

Below are examples of Harry's art.

You can find more at www.hsomers.com

Risks and challenges

Our project is very time-senstitive. Harry's health is fragile and we'd like to be able to show him significant progress on the assembly of the final film as quickly as possible.

We are working hard with several professional artists (who have already donated countless hours) to make this film as beautiful and textured as Harry's paintings.

All funds (after fees and reward fulfillment) will go directly toward post-production as we estimate we have already amassed over 80% of our actual footage, the highlight of which are many interviews and vignettes of our subject, Harry, along with other holocaust survivors.

Using 3-D layering and animation, we will take you though Harry's paintings into his childhood.

By donating to this project, you are helping to employ some very talented and generous artists.

If you have any questions for the filmmakers, please do message us! We're so grateful for your interest and we hope you will take this opportunity to get involved with this project!
