Back in 2013 I launched a New Adult Dystopian novel titled Freakhouse. And while I was busy on the publishing end, I had the sequel ready in my back pocket. I wasn't sure if I wanted to release the sequel, but Freakhouse remains one of my most favourite projects, and the second half of the story feels so essential to me. So it's time to share it - with your help!
Why 2017? Well, self-publishing is a big job that requires a lot of investment. Working at the pace I have, utilizing the funds that I've worked for, it has taken me this long to get things in place - from writing, revising, working with editors, beta readers, cover designers, it all takes time, especially when I'm saving up to pay the professionals for the polish that my readers deserve! This new novel, Parish, is just about ready to go. We're in the final phases of beta reads, and the cover designer has us penciled in. Rebecca Frank, who is the creative mind behind the Freakhouse cover, has agreed to come back for the sequel.
Great, right? But then what?
As I mentioned above, going at my current pace with my current funds means that the production end of things takes a while. And honestly I think we've been waiting long enough for this half of the story! So I'm asking for your help to finish off this cover and hopefully get Parish ready for the next big step in publishing - marketing.
I've set the goal to $500 with the worst-case scenario successfully-funded scenario in mind. Supposing that only the highest cost (to me) rewards are selected, then after covering those production costs, Kickstarter fees, and shipping, I can still make a helpful dent in the cover design costs. And, hey, that's better than no dent at all! If we do better, then here's hoping that we can cover the full cost, add promotional materials, and promotional spaces to help Parish reach the right readers. And beyond that? New projects!
Risks and challenges
Delays. The cover artist is human and thus can fall victim to any unforeseeable obstacles that may prevent her from reaching the deadline. Shipping delays. Customs delays. Basically anything that can be stalled by man, machine, or weather. Different postal services have their own set of rules and policies when it comes to delivery attempts; the author is not responsible for missed deliveries or failure of the receiver to pick-up packages.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
