The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a swell game and all, but there's a definitive lack of drunken paladins therein. And this is a huge problem--one that seems only solvable by Steve Gibbon, sole creator of Tales of the Drunken Paladin.
So, What's the Plan?
Well, first of all, we're going to develop a mod using Bethesda's Creation Kit the likes of which has never been seen (literally--I've looked all over). The primary objective of this mod is to create an interactive follower with scripted AI and situational awareness (kind of like Dawnguard's Serana, but with VASTLY more detail and unique dialogue). Essentially, Anebriate will follow you around in-game and provide continually hilarious (and relevant) commentary on all your adventures. In addition, it will include a handful of new interiors, NPCs, quests, etc. to introduce more of Drunken Paladin's beloved cast and mythology into the new setting.
Why the Kickstarter?
A couple of reasons. Firstly, because if we're going to have professional sound (and we're going to have professional sound), we're going to have to make it ourselves. And if we're going to make it ourselves, we're going to need the right tools for the job. The funding will primarily go to ensuring that Hootey (our certified voice actor) doesn't have to scrape by with a flimsy headset-microphone, so his golden pipes can really shine. Everything beyond the cost of equipment will go into the man-hours making the mod above and beyond all your expectations. The more we get, the bigger the mod can be, and the happier you'll be as a result. If we reach some of the crazy stretch-goals, we could even bring in some talented 3D artists to do work on exclusive TDP animations. Who knows? If we get enough funding, this could end up being a bigger add-on than Dawnguard itself.
And you can be damn sure it will be funnier.
What the Hell is a Drunken Paladin?
Well, it's... probably better if you find out for yourself. But to give you a general idea, it's a comedy RPG in the style of old-fashion JRPGs that has become sort of an Internet sensation, garnering nearly half a million downloads over the course of three years. I mean, I think it's pretty cool. And so do a lot of other people, with any luck. Otherwise, this will be a pretty embarrassing Kickstarter.
Meet the Voice Actor
Hi! My name is Scott, but you probably know me better as Hootey, amateur voice actor and resident video game streamer at Vinesauce.com. I've been entertaining people for the past three years with both classic and new games, all while providing my own impromptu voices. After receiving tremendous feedback from viewers, and having had the opportunity to provide the opening narration for Tales of the Drunken Paladin, I feel ready to boldly stride into the industry and to give the effort everything that I have. And what better way to start than to voice a filthy-mouthed paladin named Anebriate and all of his chums? :) Thank you for all of your support!
