About this project
I have been an avid computer gamer since I was a kid. Growing up with video games, I know a thing or two about digital currency. Even though I went to business school, the reality is that I never connected all the dots between virtual money and the real world impact it could potentially make. Well, that gap was bridged when Bitcoin caught my attention a year ago. The recent major events in Cyprus and China have further opened my eyes and changed my perception about cryptocurrency. NOTE: Refer to the Bitcoin Milestone Event Poster below if you are not sure what I'm talking about.
Fast forward to today, we are here and now. You're reading this. And you know my crew and I want to make a movie about Bitcoin. So what are we looking to achieve with a Bitcoin film?
Goals to Accomplish
- Look into multiple lenses of consumer and merchant behaviors across the world about using virtual currency
- Educate the public about how digital currency works and its potential benefits
- Bitcoin's socioeconomic impact around the world, especially in emerging markets
- Understand the viewpoints from entrepreneurs, startup investors, speculators, and small businesses on why they get involved with Bitcoin
- Complete the Bitcoin ecosystem and help build Bitcoin's infrastructure
This is what we really hope to accomplish with our Kickstarter campaign. We will travel to 4 countries for the film if we reach $100K, 7 countries if we reach $150K, and 10 countries if we reach $200K. The following graph should be more intuitive in telling our goals.
Business Insider - "A film would help elucidate Bitcoin's benefits (and shortfalls) for a wider audience"
Bitcoin Magazine - "Films like this documentary are representative of a side of Bitcoin that has been rapidly growing: the human side"
Media Bistro/Social Times - "Bitcoin Is Getting its Own International Movie"
Bitcoin Examiner - "Cryptocurrency might star in a movie"
- Update #1 - "Bitcoin: The Movie" NYC Pledge Party
- Update #2 - "Bitcoin: The Movie" Sponsors Inside Bitcoins Conference
- Update #3 - One Week Update
Ok, let's get to your favorite part. There are plenty of swags and goodies to give away. We are all part of the Bitcoin ecosystem. What goes around should finally come around. Aside from a top notch film, here's what else our supporters can expect as rewards.
*More poster designs are coming soon.
*More screen savers coming soon. It will be a collection of moments that we capture when we are on the road for this journey!

Risks and challenges
Bitcoin is a new form of cryptocurrency that emerged back in 2008. Given that it's still relatively new, its future is fairly uncertain. Right now, people are on both sides of the table. Some are highly optimistic about it, and the rest are pessimistic or neutral. In the process of making this film, our team might hit curveballs because some people do not want Bitcoin to succeed. Certain challenges are expected. However, the fact that Bitcoin is relatively unknown can also act as the catalyst to making a good film, because a good Bitcoin documentary will play an important role in educating the public and helping them adopt to a new currency.
The making of this film requires our crew to travel to different countries in the world and communicate with local people. If English is not widely spoken in a country, it can pose certain communication threats. Luckily, everyone on our team is an experienced global trekker. We are confident that we can minimize the language and culture barriers while shooting this film overseas.
We will be working with a professional fulfillment company to deliver your goodies like photo albums and posters. We'll be keeping a close eye out to make sure things are delivered on time, especially for international shippings.
The global economic climate is unknown for the near future. Where Bitcoin is being utilized the most in 3 or 6 months can be unpredictable. That's what makes this documentary so interesting. Our team will be assessing the best countries to visit where we can make this film.
Last but not least, we plan to finish this film by July 2014, which will give us enough time to submit it to the Sundance Film Festival. Each member on our crew is highly competent and talented in doing what they do. Although it takes lots of hard work to make an excellent film, our film crew will strive to create something exceptional that can linger around for years to come!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
