What can I (we!) say... a huge THANK YOU to everybody who has backed this project!! You are all AWESOME and, as director, I will endeavour to create the BEST EVER Speccy Addict film yet... :-)

Shortly after the KS ends, you will shortly be able to pre-order The Lost Tapes at:

www.remicmedia.com/speccyaddict/

Many thanks!!

The Speccy Addict Team.

24 hours left for Spectrum Addict: The Lost Tapes, Kickstarter funding project. We’re getting tantalisingly close to the second stretch goal, whereby everybody gets a PDF book on the making of the films, including further insights via interview into the minds of developers, exclusive photographs, and info on the Spectrum NEXT. This will not be a pamphlet… I’m a published author with 23 novels under my belt… it’s a professionally produced work, of which I’ve already written 15,000 words.

The film is also well underway. When the SA: Load “FILM2” KS ended, then the interviewing began. As you can see by the enclosed photos, I have a good thirty minutes already in place, Dave Bulwer has been working his little cotton-socks off capturing hundreds of Speccy game footage clips (he cursed me about Jack and the Beanstalk!! ha ha), and Rob Shedwick has been composing new and exciting music for the film: everything is GO!

24 hours. Even if you don’t back the film, if you could help spread the word it would be most appreciated.

This is a love-letter to the ZX Spectrum. I was (and am) a Speccy Addict. So, err, sue me. :-)

(there’s still a BIG COMPETITION to win lots of stuff from the previous films (not this one) … so go visit @Lord_Arse on Twitter for more info).

Steve Wetherill (Nodes of Yesod, Heartland, Robin of the Wood, ICUPS, Sidewize) here seen talking about the concept of Hearts of Yesod… (yes, you heard that right…) :-)

Want to know more? You could back the film... :-)

Er, yes, we funded in the first 24 hours... pretty amazing - so a BIG THANK YOU to the retro community!! :-)    Now, however, we are only £299 from STRETCH GOAL 1 - which is to create a film that's 2 hours 30m - 3 hours long, instead of the original goal of a 90 minute film...  come on, £299!!!!!!!

As an incentive, here is previously unseen footage of Jas Austin and Mel Croucher (formerly Automata) discussing the never completed Wozwell and the Time Ticklers, starring Jon Pertwee… I kid you not! :-)

If you can share or promote the Kickstarter in any way t'would be MUCH appreciated. Cheers!

The Speccy Addict Team.

Very, very pleased to announce Simon Brattel of Design Design fame (Halls of the Things, Dark Star, Zeus Assembler) has agreed to an interview for the new Speccy film. Thrilled!!!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Hello and welcome to Memoirs of a Spectrum Addict 2.5 – The Lost Tapes [4K].

With two ZX Spectrum feature documentaries under my belt, funded and delivered in 2017 and 2018, I asked the community if it was feasible to run a KS to make a version 2.5 film – creating a NEW FILM, with SOME NEW interviewees, but also utilising quality unseen footage – and making it available at a lower price, with signed discs as an exclusive to backers. I received a unanimous flood of positivity – so here we are!

I wanted to offer something new in Speccy Addict 2.5, so have been blessed with three new interviewees (thus far!) to spice things up: First is Dr Mark Eyles, Creative Director at Quicksilva who published Jeff Minter and Sandy White amongst many others, and gave us FRED, Gridrunner, Bugaboo (The Flea), 3D Ant Attack and Zombie Zombie.

Secondly, we have Teresa "T’zer” Maughan, Editor of Your Sinclair magazine (formerly Your Spectrum) at its peak in 1987-1989, who will dazzle us with her memories of that wonderful era of Spectrum nirvana.

Thirdly, we have Paul Griffiths, Developer and Programmer best known for Denizen, Dizzy Down the Rapids, (the unreleased) Joe Blade IV, Spike in Transylvania and Steg the Slug. Working on the Speccy between 1988 and 1993, it will be cool to get a juxtaposed viewpoint between the early days of the Spectrum - and the final days…

So please join with me on the journey of making a new Spectrum Addict film. Let’s take the red pill, stay in Wonderland, and see how deep the rabbit hole goes…

[Please note: No interview can be 100% guaranteed, as sometimes personal events or an Act of God can hijack the gig. If, for any reason, one of the above interviews cannot take place, a suitable lovely retro hero will be found].

During Memoirs of a Spectrum Addict (2017) I met and interviewed lots of my childhood Spectrum heroes! It was an honour and a privilege. With Memoirs of a Spectrum Addict: LOAD “FILM2” (2018) I met a whole lot more, giving me hours of footage I just couldn’t fit into the two films, despite the second film running at 2hr 45minutes!

After release, I received quite a few messages asking when I was going to make Spectrum Addict 3. However, I’d previously conducted interviews with thirty-seven Spectrum veterans, programmers, developers, publishers, artists, musicians and homebrew dudes, and have hours of unseen anecdotes which need to be shared alongside A FEW (currently THREE) NEW INTERVIEWS.

There will also be new CHAPTERS on the Homebrew Scene, Hardware and the Spectrum NEXT! --- and, possibly, a few surprises along the way!

FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, the film will be available in 4K (delivered via USB STICK). 4K backers will also get a signed BluRay for their collection, and will be able to put that fabulous 4K TV to good use.

Everybody who backs the film will get their name in the end credits. Please be aware that how your name appears on your Kickstarter account is HOW IT WILL APPEAR IN THE FILM. :-)

DVD and BluRay mastering has been carried out by TradeDuplication.com in the past, with a ZERO % failure rate. However I am looking into replication as opposed to duplication – it depends on the level of backing this project subsequently achieves.

I have set the initial low, low KS goal at £2500 for a 90 minute film.

Stretch Goal 1 –

If the film KS hits £6000 then the film will be extended from 90m to between 2hr 30m and 3hrs.

Stretch Goal 2 –

If the film KS hits £9000 then each backer will receive a PDF novella entitled “The Making of the Spectrum Addict Films”, minimum of 100 pages and with lots of new stories, humorous anecdotes (like when Mev Dinc and I were thrown out of a hotel!) and previously unseen production stills.

Stretch Goal 3 –

If the film KS hits £13,000 then a second film entitled The Making of the Spectrum Addict Films, a "behind the scenes documentary on the making of a documentary" will be available for FREE as a digital download, or for a very small fee (at COST) as a second DVD/BluRay.

Stretch Goal 4 –

If the film KS hits £16,000 then 100 backers will be selected at random and given 2 tickets to attend a special Film Premiere at a suitable location in The Midlands, United Kingdom (location yet to be confirmed).

I'm not making this up... there really were some lost tapes! Old MiniDV tapes containing a few early interviews, including never-before-seen footage with Simon Butler, Mark R. Jones, John Romero and even snippets with Brenda Romero! :-)

Risks and challenges

Having a lot fewer interviews to conduct this time round (and believe me, it IS really time consuming, with peoples scattered all over the UK (and indeed abroad)) means the final film will be completed MUCH FASTER. I can actually begin it the day the Kickstarter ends, if successful. The aim for the release date of Spectrum Addict 2.5 is AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2019, and possibly even earlier if completed on schedule.

This is the third Spectrum documentary, and the only real obstacles come from interviewees. Last time, due to personal reasons, some of the proposed interviewees were not available for interview – hence this disclaimer: none of the NEW interviews above are guaranteed, although I DO guarantee there will be three new Spectrum-related veterans in Speccy Addict 2.5. The only other potential obstacle could be ill health, which is something nobody can predict – other than that, we’re good to go!
