Case

Posted by Andy Rawson (Creator)

Just wanted to post some pictures of the sample cases. The black one is milled out of ABS and is almost exactly like the injection molded ones that will ship with the IR-Blue. The white one is a 3D printed case made by Shapeways with selective laser sintered nylon plastic.

Brian, It isn't shown in the pictures but the final case will have a center point and an indented outline of the hole for drilling the second sensor hole in the case.

      Brian, good idea!
But with a dual sensor setup the sensors must be placed under a slight angle and won´t fit I think.

I think the case would be even better if it had a scored knock-out for a second sensor below the first one. Like the metal disks that cover the ports on electrical utility boxes, users who opt to install an additional sensor could avoid drilling a new hole by just punching out the other hole.

Robert, in small quantities ProtoMold or Quickparts are some good options. They will make relatively inexpensive molds for 1000 - 10,000 units.

      Sweet.

Also, I wish more KS projects had updates like this - short, sweet, and to the point.

Any chance you'll post the source model so those of us with 3D printers can mess around with making our own cases?

I'm finding it hard to contain my excitement. I'm really looking forward to getting my unit :)

SLS Nylon? I had no idea!

What is the process for getting injection molded cases done in small quantity?
