Hey, I know you. Thanks for checking out my project.
I have a project I'd love to pursue. I want nothing more than to make movies and entertain people through storytelling, but I don't have the means to do it on my own.
I've been hard at work on Weekend Wonder, a fun short film that will be realistic to produce based on meeting our minimum goal. It explores the early moments of a relationship with someone who may be a kleptomaniac.
Weekend Wonder – A kleptomaniac in denial who recently lost her job meets a man at a hotel and their serendipitous first date leads to robbing a convenience store.
I'm asking for $1800 to help with the essentials to make and release this film, including production costs like props, wardrobe, and location fees; and post-production costs like music licensing, audio mixing, and film festival submission. I plan to make the movie mostly on my own — I'm sure I'll call in some favors (if you've got some favors to spare, let me know), but the project will benefit from my experience and ability to write, direct, film, and edit the movie all by myself. If I have to act in it, I will. (Please don't make me act in it.)
Filming will take place shortly after this Kickstarter is successfully funded. From there, editing will be top priority in order to have the film ready for release in July. A mini-summer-blockbuster!
There's something else I should mention: I'm either crazy, stubborn, or determined. Probably a combination of all three. I've had failures on Kickstarter, and failing publicly is hard to put into words. There's nowhere to hide. You have to own it, learn from it, and move on if you want to get back to being productive.
For all my failures, my project Portrait was successfully funded through Kickstarter. It was a documentary on photography I made with a little bit of cash and a lot of passion that connected with a lot of people. I hope to get that chance again with Weekend Wonder.
What if we raise beyond our goal? Here are some things I have high on my wish list:
- Behind the scenes and extras – As a filmmaker, I love going behind the scenes. It would be great to capture the whole process of making a film and share it with you and other aspiring filmmakers.
- More music – A single music license for film can be at least $50-100.
- More film festivals – Similar to music... submitting to just a few film festivals can total over $100.
So, that's Weekend Wonder. I'd love to have you on the team. Join me?

Risks and challenges
Let me start with why Weekend Wonder: Multiple people asked why I didn't just change my last film project to take place in Columbus in order to decrease the cost of production. The truth is, that simply would have been a disservice to the story. I wouldn't have felt right just trying to cut and slash away at what I had written in order to raise money for something I didn't believe in. Weekend Wonder, in some ways, is inspired by Ink. I took many of the lessons I learned and borrowed some elements from the story, but overall it is a unique snowflake. I won't compromise on the quality of my storytelling in attempt to make something passable rather than make something great.
You can expect the same attitude towards risks and challenges. I have reduced the people, locations, and overall scope to make this project not only more achievable, but in a way that I know each element can be produced to its highest quality.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
