About this project
A note from Andy:
Thank you all for your support. Your kind words and pledges have been unbelievably inspiring and humbling. As you can see, we're winding down in the funding process, while still over 50% away from our goal. I won't quit until the buzzer sounds, but I am working on new ways to still make a film to share with you. Follow me on Twitter @andynewman or go to my website madebyandy.com to see how you can still be a part of my film and to support my creative dreams.
If you're still interested in supporting Portrait, head on over to my new campaign with updated information on how I still plan to make this film.

In the age of Instagram, what sets a professional photographer apart?
Everything I do is about connecting real people and real moments from the offline world to the online world. I am fascinated with the process of creative arts. But I believe that process should be demystified.
I'm making a documentary on photography that will break down the creative process, while giving you an all-access look into the life of three professional photographers. Join me?
ABOUT THE FILM
Portrait will follow three innovative photographers and let you into their life, their process, and their craft.
Portrait aims to serve as a teaching tool for new and experienced photographers alike. I want to make this film because, simply put, there's nothing out there like it.
It will share invaluable knowledge and methods that took years to develop, while showing that creative direction and vision are even more important than gear.
Photographers to be featured include Nick Fancher from Columbus, Ohio, Andria Lindquist from Seattle, Washington, and Kim A. Thomas from San Francisco, California.
Other photographers to be interviewed include Peter Hurley, Brad Feinknopf, Christopher Lynch, The Ely Brothers, and Janine Renee.
SO, WHAT'S THE MONEY FOR?
Traveling is expensive, and that's just what the Kickstarter funds will cover. Anything raised beyond the goal of $12,000 will go towards equipment (lights, audio), the crew, and post-production (editing, music, distribution). The Kickstarter goal is about a quarter of the total budget, but will ensure that the film can be completed in a timely manner.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE GOAL ISN'T MET?
Kickstarter is all-or-nothing, so if we don't reach the goal, none of the money pledged will go towards the film. If the goal isn't met, traveling with equipment and crew will not be possible.
MY FACE CAN BE IN THE FILM?
Yep! If you contribute to Portrait, we will use a portrait you provide in the film. You must own the copyright to the image and it is subject to approval (choose something appropriate for all ages).

ABOUT ANDRIA LINDQUIST
The best way to describe Andria is from her blog, in her own words:
"I’m a photographer because it’s what I was created to be.
Photography came to me at a time when I needed it most – it was like walking right into what I was created to do. It fit me, my personality, my strengths. It had me constantly thinking, changing, growing and it makes me feel alive to know that tomorrow will never be the same as today.
I will never get tired it or take for granted the responsibility and blessing I have with this career. I will never not be a photographer, not on any day of my life, not in any moment. It’s who I am."
Andria is 110% about photography, plain and simple.
ABOUT KIM A. THOMAS
Kim is a fashion and lifestyle photographer living in San Francisco. She has a passion to learn and to help other photographers. From Kim:
"For me, photography is about capturing timeless images. I look at one's clothing, their stance, their expression, the light, the background, everything I can, and piece it together to create a lasting moment. People inspire me. Being able to combine that with my favorite medium, a camera, is a journey I'm continuously thankful to be on.
To pursue photography further, I recently packed a few suitcases and moved from British Columbia, Canada, to San Francisco. I believe the best way to improve is through experimentation. I keep myself challenged through side projects (one being Kelowna Street Style) and I'm excited to see where photography takes me."
I HAVE A QUESTION, CAN I CONTACT YOU?
portraitdocumentary.com | Photography above by Nick Fancher.
Nope! You will only be charged when the campaign ends on Friday, May 4 if we are successful in meeting our goal.
Pretty much, as long as...
1) It's appropriate for all ages. 2) You have full copyright of the image and are allowing us to use it in the film and any promotional materials. You'll be credited in the film, but I can't guarantee your name will be directly linked to the use of the picture.
Otherwise, everything else is fair game. If you want it to be a group or family picture or company logo, that's fine as long as it meets the two requirements above.
