Mass production, finalizing orders, and some cool stuff from CES

Posted by Andromium Inc. (Creator)

Hi there backers and supporters,

It has been a super busy month. Production has started, and we are in the process of preparing the warehouses for receiving product to be shipped. We have also had a wonderful month with our partners, who have shown of exciting prototypes and demos with our technology at CES. You may have noticed we’ve been a little less active on Slack and in comments, but that is 100% because of heads down focus to get the product out.

This update contains a lot of info, please read it carefully. We have updates on the production and shipping timelines, administrative updates on updating/changing orders, and some news from CES on cool projects and innovations with Sentio.

One more thing: we prioritized a few other things on engineering, and we did not get a chance to send out the 10 Superbooks to backers yet. We will aim to have it by the next major update.

Ok, let’s dive in.

Production and shipping timeline updates

We have started manufacturing! Behind the scenes, we have resolved a lot of smaller nuisances in the last month, including a strange issue with the LG V20 (make sure you upgrade to the latest system update!), some missing connectors (found them!), and a general lack of sleep. The happy news is that we have successfully finished the last sample run of 140 units, and we have started MASS PRODUCTION.

Carlton aside, what this means is that we should be able to get most of the Superbooks produced before Chinese New Year and start shipping. Since manufacturing happens by product type (model and color), we will start with the premium Superbooks (since there are the most of them) and finish with the base Superbooks. They will all get shipped to the warehouses at around the same time, as everything is ocean shipped together.

Sweet sweet superbooks
Sweet sweet superbooks

So what does that mean? Here’s the updated timeline with slightly more refined detail than last time:

  • Mid-January - Mass production begins with first batch of hubs, continuing on when the 2nd shipment of USB hubs arrive. First major batches will go to the warehouse in Hong Kong. [STARTED!]
  • February 12-23rd - China takes vacation for Chinese New Year
  • ~February 23rd - Superbooks start their ocean freight journey
  • Mid to Late February - Backers in Asia will start receiving their Superbooks via courier. Some may ship out before Chinese New Year, as Hong Kong ends CNY holidays earlier.
  • Late March - Superbooks arrive in North America and Europe warehouses, start getting sorted and shipped via Ground Shipping.
  • Some Time in April - Depending on the speed of Ground Shipping, backers in North America and Europe will receive their Superbooks.

Last week for order changes

Since manufacturing has started, we are going to give everyone one more week for order changes, including shipment addresses, cord changes (if you got a Type C device recently…), and cancellation requests. At 6 PM on January 26th, Pacific Standard Time, we will close off to any changes whatsoever as we are required to submit paperwork. Need to make any changes? Go to, login, and change your order shipment address or cords. Can’t wait anymore for your Superbook and want a cancellation? We will still offer refunds until 6 PM on January 26th, PST. Reach out to

One thing we could use your feedback on as backers: we have a few hundred units extra in this first mass production run. If there is enough demand, we would love to open it up to backers and preorder customers before the general public. Let us know what you think about a mini-flash sale just for our current backers and preorderers.

CES: Cool partner collaborations

This year was a little bittersweet for us at CES. As most of the team was in Asia, we didn't exhibit. But we did collaborate with some really cool partners that showed off some really exciting new innovations.

Razer Project Linda - One of the coolest and most talked about products at CES. Truly proud to play a role and get Sentio Desktop front and center.

Lattice Semi's Magnetic Docking - Our friends at Lattice put together an incredibly cool demo, showing off magnetic docking with the Essential phone. The demo uses the magnetic dock on the back of the Essential phone. The magnetic docking experience is so nice - definitely something we want to bring to life.

Well in the 2 years of waiting, I moved and apparently we can't change address in your dashboard. And conveniently you closed off refunds as well. I try to support cool projects on Kickstarter and I know that this is not easy, but at the same time, it's hard to feel like you guys haven't just basically stolen my money on this. I paid for it but I can't get it and I can't get it refunded.

    2. Manfred Winter on

I have the same problem as many others here. When I ordered 2 years ago I needed a Micro-USB cable. Now my Superbook arrived finally and my phone (OnePlus 5T) has a USB-C connector. Where do I get the needed cable so I can use my Superbook?

    3. Paul JaYmes on

I'm moving so need to change my shipping address - "closing off changes" nearly a year (and counting!) before delivery is just ridiculous and totally unjustifiable.

Pat Bunya seems to be my spiritual twin. I have the exact same issue with him, and I mean exact! Same scenario, same old and new phone models, and also the same wrong cable because the order was made a long time back.

What can we do about this issue?

    5. Pat Banya on

I just received my Superbook, but the cord is not compatible with my phone. At the time I placed my original order, I had a Samsung Galaxy S7 that had a micro USB connector. That was nearly two years ago, and I've since upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S9+ with a USB type-C connector. I originally invested with the expectation that the Superbook would be delivered in a more timely manner, but there were numerous delays and the shipment was pushed back substantially. I can't actually use the Superbook until I have the compatible cord. What are my options?

Thanks for the updates and transparancy. I think the product will be worth the wait. :)

    10. Dirk Wouters

How about pictures of the production. Or better yet, a video. So no boxes or packaging where there is anything else in it. But where you can also see what is being produced. Should not be a problem when production is running at full speed. It is surely interesting and exciting for many people.

    11. R00T_L33 on

I must say that your updates are great, compare to other project I'm really satisfied with the informations your putting on the updates with the pictures and the level of details.
For thos of you who still complaining about delays, I suggest you to start running your company, you'll see that it's all about managing accidents and unexpected things.
Next thing I'm really looking forward to strat projects on the sentio, please open a github =).

      @Anthony Weber, will do!

Do also send me a message if you're looking to sell more units to backers. I think one for my roommate would be a great gift!

+1 on mini-flash sale for backers! So long as that additional shipping charge has gotten under control. :)

I'd love to get in the "mini-flash" sale before you sell to the general public of those extra Superbooks!!!!

Great update. Can't wait till the February update when we are informed that the new date has been pushed back to October.

    23. Bob S. on

That's not "fair," Helge, that's ridiculous. Don't try to scam free stuff. And don't try to introduce further delays as the project gets near its most critical part of the timeline.

    24. Missing avatar

      Helge Jungblut on

Now a question for the delays. It would be fair to provide a gift for the patience of the backers... May it would be possible :)

    25. Sean Hull on

I second Ahmet's suggestion. I think it also makes sense to have a flash sale after people start receiving them so they can decide if they like it enough to buy a second. My son has been wanting a Chromebook for a while, and it would be great for him to check mine out to see if he would prefer a Superbook.

      Ahmet Aydogan on

Although carrying the cost of inventory of the few hundred extra units from the first production run is something you're thinking about, please consider reserving some or all of that inventory to provide quick replacements for those who start receiving their long awaited units if they run into shipping damage or defective product issues. The good will you generate from a quick turnaround of those initial customer service issues probably has more long term value than the marginal sales that making them available to the general public will.

Also, the Sensio team's commitment to transparency is refreshing. Keep it up. I can't wait to get receive my product.

    27. Nick Whitehead on

Yay! Glad you guys have pulled through. Unlike half your backers I realise that manufacturing a totally new cool product is really hard. Cant wait to see it!

I second the question about Australia - does it count as Asia in terms of delivery dates?

    30. Jeremie Lariviere

      Thanks for the update!

    31. Water Lou on

Great. Although there is a huge delay, the timeline is reasonable and your update is responsive. Can’t wait to see the product ship.
