Midnight Wave is a samurai cyberpunk tactical action RPG with immense customization, narrative choice, and innovative gameplay mechanic combinations, set in a world full of katanas, mega corporations, and elemental powers. Inspired by legendary series such as Fire Emblem, Persona, Super Smash Bros., and more recent games like the Mass Effect series, Midnight Wave invites you to take part in a total genre mash-up adventure like no-other!

The Character Creator allows you to customize your character in anticipation of the full game. Only options included in our first goal are available for customization. As we reach stretch goals, further customization will be unlocked, such as more classes for each gender, more elements, and more hairstyles. Available for Windows.

Midnight Wave's story is one of ambition, fueled by a desire to change the way things are for the better. Taking place in the Japanese-inspired world of Neo-Nihon, the country has been split into states owned by corporate giants each representing an element. These corporations lust for power and control, sending out armies and agents of all kinds to further fuel the nation's eternal conflict.
Our protagonist is Yu, a young rebel fed up with the state of the world. Yu takes up an exciting offer that promises the opportunity to change the world for the better by starting a rebellion with his old friends Nobu and Mitsu. However, the fires of war bring tragedy close to home, and rebellion proves too much than what Yu bargained for. Burned by these events, the three set out at midnight from the harbor city of Nagoya to put an end to corrupt corporations and war once and for all.
The Midnight Wave is founded, and their efforts rewarded when a mysterious benefactor offers to upgrade them from a small rebel unit to a full scale private military. The catch? This benefactor knows more about all of them than he's letting on. He even knows how to reverse the tragedies of Yu's past, but only if Yu obeys him without telling the others. How will Yu react? Will Yu fight for his friends, for his family, for himself, or for peace? What decisions will Yu make? Find out on the next episode of Midnight Waaaaavvveee!
The story will take several branching paths all based on your dialogue choices and gameplay actions. Two players could have wildly different outcomes. Characters will change their behavior and actions based on narrative choice. Changes could be as drastic as one player marrying a character in their play-through, but that character is an enemy who was killed in the other player's story. The story will also shift based on the outcome of certain battles. Permadeath is a factor, and major characters can die and be gone for good.
During character creation, the player will decide on their social stats: Knowledge, Courage, and Charm. The social stats will occasionally grant the player unique dialogue options to which characters will respond in unique ways. During these conversations, players have a chance to make friends, rivals, love interests and enemies based on their choices. Your relationships with these characters will affect the story.
Midnight Wave's gameplay begins with tactical combat. When a character chooses to attack another in the tactical map, the gameplay switches to platform fighter to determine their fates!
When beginning a mission, players start on the top down tactical map. Players then select their characters, move them, and choose to attack enemies either with a tactical skill or begin a platform fighter duel. Strategy is important! Classes, levels, companions, the environment, and elements all factor into the upcoming fight.

Midnight Wave's three classes - Samurai, Ninja, and Ashigaru - are balanced through a simple but effective rock–paper–scissors system. Samurai are reasonably proficient with speed, damage, and endurance. Ninja are fast, deal high damage, but have lower health. Ashigaru have high health and attack, but low speed.
Note: Due to budget constraints, males will be unable to play as Ashigaru, and females will be unable to play as Samurai or Ninja. Current artwork does not reflect this. Should we reach our first stretch goal, both genders will have access to all classes.
Characters gain experience when defeating enemies, often resulting in a level up. Upon leveling up, players receive a set amount of stat points to distribute as they see fit, before returning to the fight. Upon reaching certain levels, players will gain class skills and will eventually unlock an advanced version of their class.
Each character will be granted tactical skills based on their class and element. These skills can be used in battle to turn the tides of war in your favor. Scroll down to the Elemental Abilities section to see an example of Mitsu's Wave skill.
When choosing to engage an enemy, characters will act out the combat in the platform fighter mode! Attack enemies in the platform fighter mode to defeat them in tactical gameplay! The aforementioned classes, levels, and skills will also impact platform fighter gameplay.
Water, Fire, Air, Earth, and Void! Take advantage of the unique elemental powers of each character! Use them to turn the tide of battle in both tactical and platform fighter gameplay! Turn hazards into scaleable terrain, burn down obstacles, blow away enemies!

Players begin in the hub world, a low level district in the city of Nagoya. Here they may meet up and bond with companions, customize their gear and appearance, interact with the environment and locals, or take on combat missions.

In Midnight Wave, every character is important to the narrative. Not only do they play a significant part in the main story, but each character has their own side stories. Bond with characters by fighting side by side in battle. Adjacent tactical allies will enter platform fighter gameplay together in dual duels!
After spending time together on the battlefield, head back to the hub world to hang out with friends and strengthen your bond with them. Maybe even spy on conversations between other characters! When two characters improve their bond, they'll be stronger together in battle! If two characters reach max bonds, they have the opportunity to enter a relationship together. Should we reach our Second Stretch Goal, we will expand the story and gameplay to allow for marriage and as result, children characters - who will take on the appearance, personality, class, and elements of their parents.
Customization is very important to us as gamers and developers, so every aspect of a player's character will be customizable. The class, element, and weapons affect gampeplay, whereas the rest of the character's appearance is purely cosmetic. Throughout gameplay players may customize their companions' classes, weapons, and appearances as well.
Midnight Wave will launch with a local multiplayer platform fighter mode, so you and a few friends can hop in an area and wreak elemental havoc on each other.
Yu is the default main character and a new recruit of the Midnight Wave rebels. Brash, tenacious, and impulsive, Yu often leads his team into battle head-first, so much so that you'll always find a bandage on him somewhere. Yu is gifted with control over ice.
Ray Chase is known for his roles as Noctis in Final Fantasy XV, Eve from Nier: Automata, Roy and Alfonse from Fire Emblem Heroes, Artorius from Tales of Berseria, Jason Blood/Etrigan from Justice League Dark, Puri Puri Prisoner from One Punch Man, Master of Masters from Kingdom Hearts, and the Subway Announcer from Persona 5!
Nobu is a charismatic and absurdly powerful veteran ninja. He'd be the best leader of any military unit in Neo-Nihon if he wasn't also a little insane. He's full of bravado and heart, but things often randomly get blown up around him. Totally not his fault. He is gifted with control over the Void.
Kyle Hebert is known for his roles as Ryu in Street Fighter, both Adult Gohan and the Narrator in Dragonball Z, Kiba in Naruto, Ezreal, Jarvan, and Graves in League of Legends, Kakyoin in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Aizen in Bleach, and Kamina in Gurren Lagann.
Miki is an extremely tired and lazy female samurai. She swears that she's only sleepy because of how hard she trains. She is gifted with control over Nature.
Kira Buckland is known for her roles as 2B in NieR: Automata, Falke in Street Fighter V, Eirika & Katarina in Fire Emblem Heroes, Trucy in Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice, and Emilia in Detective Pikachu.
Kyou is the combative, stubborn, and self-willed rival of Yu. This street samurai will do whatever it takes to prove himself. No matter how many times Yu's beaten him in a duel, Kyou always asks for a rematch.He is gifted with control over Fire (but if we reach our first stretch goal he will gain the opposite element of whatever Yu chooses.)
Sean Chiplock is known for his roles as Revalia, Teba, and the Great Deku Tree in the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Yuuki Mashima in Persona 5, Werner and Darius in Ocotpath Traveler, and Natsuki in Re: Zero.
Natsumi is perhaps the least stealthy female ninja ever. She just can't help but laugh in most every situation. She is gifted with control over Fire.
Felecia Angelle is known for her roles as Shalltear Bloodfallen in Overlord, Toru Hagakure in My Hero Academia, Emi Yusa in The Devil is a Part-Timer!, Perona in One Piece, Shinoa Hiragi in Seraph of the End, Erlione Lilianthese in Bless Online, The Supreme Kai of Time in Dragonball Xenoverse, Valerie in Fantasy Strike, and Mary Sanderson in Disney's Hocus Pocus: The Brew.
Mino is the leader of Tsuchi Tech and a human augmentation specialist. With her power over nature, she masters bio-mechanical science to perfect life itself.
Morgan Berry is known for her roles as Yoshiko Tsushima from Love Live! Sunshine!!, Thirteen from My Hero Academia, Madam Sharley from One Piece, Sayo Samonji from Touken Ranbu, Tokaku Azuma from Riddle Story of Devil, and Silver Sable from Marvel Avengers Academy.

Michaela Laws is the creator of the successful series Seduce Me the Otome along with other visual novels, and is known for her roles as Yandere-Chan in Yandere Simulator, Sylvanna in BluJay Studio's MyStreet series, Silica in Juden-Chan: Recharged, and Chondra in the upcoming game YIIK: A Postmodern RPG.
Benjiro is the leader of the Kasai Corporation. Many would blame Benjiro as the reason the world is still at war. Despite this, Benjiro makes it publicly known that his goal is peace, and that he'll do anything to attain it. He is gifted with control over Fire.
Carl G. Brooks is known for his roles in Lamina Must Die and Pulstar as well as Hagen Toons's “ Yu-Gay-oh” and Smashbits's “What if Game of Thrones Was Realistic”.
Sometimes Mitsu feels like she's the only sane one left in the Midnight Wave. Despite this, she stills considers everyone her family and would do anything for them. She is gifted with the ability to control water.
Anairis Quinones is known for her roles as Mai and Miss Shizuka in Asagao Academy, Esther in Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs, Additional Roles in The Journey Down, and Caty Velasquez in Within the Wires.
A lighthearted and flirty male samurai, Hibiki's always up for a good time, whether it's on the battlefield or back at his place. He's gifted with the ability to control wind.
Jacob Barrens is known for his roles as Aaron Fletcher in Memoirs of Murder, Ethan Hudson in Path of Discovery: Europa, the Narrator in CARS Rollin Raceway, the Host in Headsnatchers, Kelvin in Ugly Lies the Bone, the Biker Gang in RICO, and The Constructor in Skyland.
Benkei leads Sora Society into a new era of peace, attempting to enforce strict weapon control laws to cut back on unnecessary violence. He is gifted with control of the Void.
Andrew Boa is known for his roles as Bellylarf in Almost a Hero, Longinus and Michael in God Complex, Ty in OC Chronicles, Tiberious the Valorous, Silly Rogue Player Option, and Dark/Brooding Player Option in Infinite Adventures.
If you play as a male Yu, you'll run into a female Kyou. Kyou is the combative, stubborn, and self-willed rival of Yu. This street samurai will do whatever it takes to prove herself. Daisy Guevara is known for her roles as Spider-Girl in Marvel Avengers Academy, Mimina Osawa in Ladies versus Butlers!, Rona Elmo in Juden-chan: Recharged!, Beatrice in The Office Type, The Tumbler in Heroes of Newerth.
Few are more serious about battle than Ohta. Upgraded via his cybernetic implants, this male spearman will do whatever it takes to win a fight. If only they would've upgraded his haircut too.
Callum Janes is a voice actor from the UK, and has contributed to projects such as Pablo (Cbeebies), One Minute Melee (Hyper Gauge), Moonlighter (Square-Enix / Digital Sun), Warfare Online (Con Artist Games), Ian's Eyes (Sindie Games), and various viral videos including "If Yugioh was made by EA".

This officer will be created based on your portrait or design. If you like, your previous civilian character could have been an undercover enemy spy the whole time!
You receive all of the rewards from previous tiers, plus you'll get to make yourself or your design into a hireable mercenary that can fight alongside the main characters. If you want, your civilian can be an ex-enemy officer who has deserted and became a mercenary! If you'd like to make this mercenary a separate character, we can do that as well.
Congratulations! You will receive every single reward we offer. With this final tier, you'll help us design a side-mission. This includes helping us design the narrative of the mission, the dialogue, the objective, and the enemies present and their positioning. The location of the side-mission will be decided on from a list of previous in-game locations. If you like, we could incorporate your designed civilian, enemy officer, and mercenary into this side-mission.
We can't make Midnight Wave on our own; we need your help! The size of the game or whether it gets made at all depends on you.
The size and scale of the game is simply too large for us to fund on our own. This is mainly due to having several modes of play: tactical, platform fighter, and dialogue/narrative choice. Programming and creating assets for all three and getting them to work in conjunction is no simple task. We need your help to make this a reality.
