FREE THE SONGS!
My name is Andrew Robinson.
I’m an independent singer-songwriter based in Bedford, UK. I have been writing songs since I was about 15, but about three years ago I started writing prolifically. I have written more songs than I will ever be able to record, but there are a few in particular that are trapped in my head.
I need your help to set them free!
SONGS ARE A GIFT TO BE SHARED
I love writing songs, but the most satisfying part of the process is watching them take flight and seeing how they impact people. I can’t do that it if I’m the only one that hears them! My songs are about living a life of faith in God, and I always try to convey a message that gives an honest account of my own struggles and triumphs, so that that others can identify with what I am saying and see something of their own lives reflected in them. It is my hope that every song that I write will have a positive impact in someone's life and encourage and build them up.
I see each song that I write as a gift from God, to be shared with those around me, and that’s what I want to achieve through this EP project.
Back in 2017, in an attempt to get some of the songs out in the big wide world, I released five songs with a self-recorded EP called Where The Light Shines. It was a good project and opened some doors of opportunity, but I felt like something was missing, and that was other people to work with. Not just musicians and producers, but a community who could share the joy of making good music. I also wanted to raise the bar by having my songs professionally produced so that they could really showcase the best of what I’ve written.
Being an independent musician means that I do everything myself - songwriting, booking gigs, promotion, artwork, social media, networking, making videos, etc. It’s all essential and time-consuming stuff, but the most important thing is having good songs that are well recorded.
TAKING IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL
With this I mind, at the end of last year I started working with the guys from Lion House Productions in Sussex. They are doing an outstanding job in producing my songs with I love going to the studio and working with them. They bring a fresh perspective, creativity and professionalism to the songs, that I could never achieve on my own. They also make up part of the band Lion of Judah so make sure to check out their music.
We have recorded and released two tracks already, Burning Bright and Deeper. If you haven’t already heard them, please check them out because they set the standard for the quality of music that I want to produce, and give an indication of what the final EP will sound like.
I’m really excited about this project and what we’ve achieved already, but I really want to see it through. I need to get back to the studio to give the remaining songs the freedom they deserve, and to get them out of my head and onto a record!
I’ve started the project already – I’ve self-funded two songs, but I need your help to finish! Asking for help can be a really hard and humbling thing to do, but I’m only one person and I only have limited resources, so here I am, asking you to help me!
IT'S A TEAM GAME
I’ve set up this Kickstarter campaign to enable people to come on this journey with me and be part of the process of creating and sharing music. By partnering with me and pledging to support the project, you will get unique and personalised rewards.
This campaign is about so much more than raising money and recording songs. It’s about a personal connection and building relationships with everyone that gets behind my vision and supports the project.
I hope that by getting involved, you will have a sense of contributing to something that is greater than the sum of its parts and creates opportunities for my music to be heard far and wide. Some of my songs are already making their way around the world on streaming services, which is incredible and I'd love to see that grow.
I’m looking to raise £1000, which will cover studio and production costs for two more songs, and I’ll fund the remaining track to make the 5 track EP. If I exceed £1000 in the campaign that will go towards the fifth song, mastering, cd duplication and promotional costs.
I aim to finish the project by the end of 2019 and to have the EP ready for release at the beginning of 2020. As a backer of my project you will have the first chance to listen to the EP as I will be sending it to you as a pre-release, a few weeks before it’s available to the general public. I'm also working on an acoustic project of songs written for my wife Ruth, that will feature in the rewards.
I’d love for you to be part of this journey with me and your support would mean so much. Music is meant to be shared, so let’s do it together and get these tunes onto the airwaves.
Thank you so much for reading this and for your interest. I can’t tell you how excited I am about completing this project!
See you soon!
Risks and challenges
The main challenge to this project is meeting the target! I've never done a crowdfunding campaign before, so I'm sailing into unchartered waters! I'm both nervous and excited about it!
The second challenge will be to complete the project by the end of the year. I have a full-time job and a family that rightly take up most of my time, so I need to be strategic about how I manage my time and meet the deadline so that I can deliver the rewards at the beginning of next year.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
