UPDATE: CAMPAIGN SUCCESS!
Greetings, visitors and backers alike!
We're delighted to find that, after just four days of fund-raising, the Welcome to Pacific City Kickstarter passed its primary goal of £500, meaning we can increase the fees we've paid our contributors to a semi-professional rate of one whole U.S. cent per word!
We've planted our sign deep in the sand, all thanks to you - but with your assistance maybe we can raise it a little higher...
PUSH GOALS - One Down..!
We asked for £750, you gave it to us: so Welcome to Pacific City WILL be our first title available not just as an ebook but in print as well!
Yet still we hunger for more...
If we can hit £1100, everyone backing at the Earlybirdman tier and above will receive a pack of digital art, including wallpapers based on the book cover's Pacific City skyline and the illustrations which graphic novelist Lance Tooks is providing for every story in the collection.
We're close - $250 will get us there. And there's now a bonus premium reward tier for one heroic backer that will put us at the brink...
Backer Bonus: Countdown to 50!
PROOF OF I.D. HAS BEEN ACHIEVED! We're well past fifty backers now, so everyone who gave us their support will receive a copy of their gen-yoo-ine Pacific City Birth Certificate, with our thanks!:

WELCOME TO THE NEW SFFWORLD ANTHOLGY!
After extraordinary delay, the next big day is dawning: the sixth SFFWorld.com short fiction anthology is about to come out!
Since 2012, SFFW's writing community has released a themed collection of original stories every year. We've done the end of the world, good luck and bad, alternate histories of the First World War, ecological fiction and speculative cartography (that's maps to you and me) - but this time we're taking a giant leap further...
Pacific City is a sprawling megalopolis on the coast of Oregon, USA - the biggest urban area on the entire west coast (it totally dwarfs the quaint sea-side resort of l'il Los Angeles...). It is home to idealistic heroes and scheming villains, as well as twenty million people (and who knows how many non-people) just trying to make an ordinary life for themselves.
Welcome to Pacific City is a melting pot of fantasy, horror and science fiction, a shared-world brought to life in fourteen original stories by authors from all over the world! But not every hero wears tights, and not every villain seeks global domination...
Little acts of heroism can change the world as profoundly as big ones, while everyday cruelty makes life a little less tolerable for everyone who experiences it. Death Rays always rain on your parade, of course, but W2PC runs the gamut, featuring day-savers and evil-doers both ordinary and extraordinary. We have:
- airborne vigilantes, both technological and supernatural
- troubled teens lurking at the junction of Good and Bad
- saintly volunteers offering sanctuary to the needy
- a hungry man with a fiery temper, burning out of control
- the hero we need... when traffic is bad, that is!
- a silver-tongued devil with a deal you can't refuse
- urban vandals (or street artists, depending on your point of view)
- clairvoyants involved in organised crime
- an ocean rescue service with a difference
- plus symbiotic parasites, mysterious hacktivists, a magic-wielding sneak-thief and master criminals who aren't... or are they?
Whatever your tastes, we think you'll find something here!
W2PC is just the latest in a series of anthologies that combine stories by established scribes and eager newcomers - and we've built a core of regular contributors along the way.
This time we welcome a clutch of new names in Jennifer Rachel Baumer, Lydia Hall, Jeremy Megargee, James Sullivan and Gil Williamson, who join previous participants Daniel Ausema, Victor G. Espinosa, Wilson Geiger, Igor Ljubuncic, Joseph Lopez and P. J. Richards.
Andrew Leon Hudson is also back, both as a contributor and the volume's co-editor, alongside the overall project's originator, N. E. White. And leading the line, we are pleased to present two great guest contributors:
Matthew Hughes's talent for writing sneaky anti-heroes and charismatic criminals has made him a regular in the likes of F&SF, as well as more anthologies than we have time to name. His far-future blending of sci-fi and magic bestowed on him the mantle of Jack Vance in the eyes of many, but here he's pulling back the veils of ancient, forgotten history...
In 2014, Tansy Rayner Roberts wrote Cookie Cutter Superhero, literally an instant superhero classic, and since then has followed it up with two great sequels, Kid Dark Against the Machine and Girl Reporter, making a cool and funny super-verse all of her own. Fortunately for us, "cool" and "funny" are exactly what she's bringing to Pacific City as well!
You can read brief interviews with all participants at the W2PC website.
WHY ARE WE KICKSTARTING?
For our fourth anthology we turned to Kickstarter to fund the project (successfully, we're glad to say!), but this time our objective is slightly different: W2PC is already paid for and ready to publish, but we want to increase the fees we've given to our contributors to at least semi-pro or even professional levels - and that's where our future backers come in.
Our demands aren't crazy: if we can raise £500 all our author fees will be boosted to at least 1cpw - that's our primary goal. We have some push goals in mind too, but we'll play those cards close to the chest for now.
Anyway, that's what we hope to get out of the deal - what's in it for you?
WHAT ARE THE REWARDS?
The obvious reward is the book itself - everyone backing us beyond the hat-tip level will get a pre-release digital copy of Welcome to Pacific City in either EPUB, MOBI or PDF format. We're also offering compulsive readers the chance to pick up all five previous anthologies at a bargain!
But there's more...
Our BIG rewards are the Tuckerizations: a chance for backers to cast themselves in the world of Pacific City! Because all the stories in the collection are set in the same place, some familiar faces and house-hold names are bound to crop up time and again. There are a mix of cops and robbers, journalists, celebrities and other civil figures to choose from.
Of course, we'll also thank ALL backers by name (or their heroic/villainous pseudonym) via Twitter, on the project website, and in the book itself. And if we exceed our target goal there are a few extra treats waiting to be shared - so if you want to know what they are, help get us across the line!
Risks and challenges
No risks, no challenges, just opportunities!
WELCOME TO PACIFIC CITY is basically finished: the funds we raise will increase the fees we've already paid to our contributors, but the actual contracts are all signed and the stories completed. The only things missing from the manuscript are the tuckerization names that we're offering you here.
The ebook will be on the digital shelves no later than December 2018, and (if the campaign is successful) our backers will receive their copies even sooner, most likely in November.
We think WELCOME TO PACIFIC CITY is the start of something fun - we've already begun work on a second collection of stories - so if you want to become a Pacific Citizen or just help make the project happen, pick a reward tier and back us!
