About this project
Aikonia is a world filled with magic and treachery. The delicate peace struck between the world of magic and the world of man is at risk. The divide is crumbling and the entire world could be literally thrown into hell. Those entrusted to protect the kingdom serve on the Council of Mages, working from within the Institute to control and teach magic use. But when the thirst for power clashes with those who seek to protect the realm, who will emerge victorious?
Aikonia is a fantasy webcomic that is updated every Monday and illustrated by Awkward Zombie's Katie Tiedrich. The original concept for the series was conceived many years before the first page ever hit the internet. Initially, the comic was intended a simple precursor to the upcoming game of the same name, but over the past year, Aikonia has taken on a life of its own. The comic follows both the exploits and intrigues of the Mage Council as they struggle to weed out corruption amongst their ranks and the students who get caught in the crossfire. By combining the excellent writing from Timothy Hely and Katie Tiedrich’s unique comical art style, we have tried to play with what is traditionally expected from a dark fantasy comic.
In addition, we found ourselves immersed in a community that shares our love for the characters and story. This unprecedented amount of support has spurred us onwards, encouraging us to explore the world of Aikonia in ways we had never imagined.
With this campaign, we hope to raise enough funds to print and distribute the complete first chapter of the webcomic as a full-color, 8" x 9", 48 page, staple-bound comic book. It will include the first 42 pages of the comic and an exclusive 5-page mini-comic revealing a previously undiscussed event in the lives of two current council members, the Archmage Solaris Isenthorne and Ariel Vanderson.
Since we want to insure the very best quality for our first printing, some of the earlier pages will be redrawn to allow for greater consistency in the art style and characters. In addition, we will fix any inconsistencies and typos we find. This means the printed version of the comic will be of a higher quality than the pages currently online.
We would also like to produce other Aikonia related merchandise such as 36" x 24" posters and prints for our fans. People will be able to either win swag in the occasional contest or to buy items on our website or at conventions. If we can print these in bulk, we can offer a higher quality product for a much cheaper price than how much they currently cost on deviantArt.
Of course, we want to offer the very best rewards for our backers.
By helping us and pledging at least $10, you can reserve your own copy of the comic book.
For $20 or more, your copy of the comic book will be signed by everyone on the team in addition to the previous rewards listed.
By donating at least $50, you can be among the first to get your hands on one of our posters, as well as a copy of the comic book and a number of other rewards.
For our serious fans, we'd like to offer the chance to be a part of our comic. For a $500 pledge, we'll add you to one of the (future) pages of the comic as a minor character. We'll also send you a high-resolution print (24"x36" or a smaller size of your choice) of the page you first show up on for you to keep as a reminder (we'll need a couple pictures of you and some information like your name and age to make sure we draw you accurately).
But wait! There is even more. Each time we reach $1000 dollars, we will release a new page of the comic the very next day. So there will be even more Aikonia for you to love while the campaign runs.
For our international backers, we’d sincerely appreciate it if you would include an extra few dollars with your donation to cover the cost of shipping.
Be sure to check out our complete list of Backer Rewards on the right to see if any of them interest you. Even if you only pledge $1, please know that we appreciate every nickel and dime you send our way. Your generosity helps keep Aikonia alive. Remember to keep checking back to our page for updates as the campaign progresses.
If we surpass our goal, the additional funds will go towards the continued upkeep of our free weekly webcomic. It will help cover expenses such as hosting, publicity/advertising, future printed chapters of the comic, and any events or contests we run in the future.
