About this project
Take a look at my rewards and see that I'm willing to work hard for your money! All contributions are happily accepted, but if you like a lot of value for your money there are bargains to be had. And there's the simple act of pre-ordering the CD. One-dollar donations (students, artists, people who gave all their money to Obama and Sandy, random people who don't care so much about this project but just like to give people a dollar) are more than welcome.
The Kickstarter Goal
12k would enable me to make this album all I want it to be, but I've set my fundraising goal at half of that. Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing model, which means you must raise the entire amount of your funding goal in order to receive any donations. If I reach 6k, I can get this project out the door. If I raise more, I can make it more fancy and elaborate, take more risks, promote it. If I raise a ton more, I can start the next CD!
The Artistic Goal
To make an album that is magical, whimsical, beautiful, interesting, surprising, and compelling. One that will take you away from all your concerns for 40 minutes and leave you with a headful of pretty melodies.
What I Do
I'm a songwriter/producer and my instruments are guitar, bass, piano and vocals. I have self-recorded all of my albums. On my first 3, I played all the instruments except for drums (Chris Searles). On this album, though I'm still playing the core instruments myself, I'm expanding to introduce a greater variety of instruments and players. Funds from this campaign will pay for musicians, mixing, mastering, art, manufacturing and promotion.
Some of the musicians who have already laid down tracks on this album are KC Bowman of the bands Agony Aunts and The Corner Laughers; Whit Williams of Cotton Mather; David Matheson of Moxy Fruvous; Jason Bell of Stars of Track and Field; Troupe Gammage of the band Speak; Red Young; Joel Guzman and Danny Levin.
How These Songs Came About
In February 2010 I was invited into a songwriting group, The Song Game, led by creative bombshell Bob Schneider. Participants wrote one song per week. Each week Bob sent out a word or phrase, and the song had to include that word or phrase. Almost all the songs on this album came from that game and were written quickly, spurred on by a desire to save face in the company of some very talented and accomplished songwriters. Writing this way was a brand new scary (and fun!) experience; and it resulted in some songs that I would never have come up with without the starting phrase and quick deadline. Having no time to over-think had its benefits. I stayed in the group for a year and a half and whipped up a lot of songs, which I then began to dress up with more rich arrangements. The time has come to finish dressing these darlings up and let them see the light of day.
The Last 3 Albums
Here are samples from my last 3 albums
1. Leaves of October from Rivers of Stars
2. Bursting Through the Clouds from Two
3. Saturn Lights My Way from Saturday Morning Sweet Shoppe
4. Simple from Saturday Morning Sweet Shoppe
5. Time to Say Hello from Two
6. Take Me Where the Lions Roar from Rivers of Stars
One journalist (no, I do not know the guy) named my debut album Saturday Morning Sweet Shoppe one of the 10 Best Female Albums of the Last 25 Years. (!!!)
A music reviewer for PopMatters named my album Two as one of the Top 10 Albums of 2002.
My 3rd album, Rivers of Stars, was named Best Album of 2006 by Collected Sounds.
Born This Way
Within weeks of being born you can see I was already playing air guitar:
The Skills that Pay the Bills
To make a living I write music for PSAs, commercials, games, internet campaigns, etc. You can check some of that out here:
One of my rewards is to produce a song or more for you if you are a singer/songwriter. Here are examples of my work as a producer/instrumentalist.
Another of my rewards is to sing backup vocals on your song. I will do this from my home studio and deliver the files via the internet. Here are some songs that feature a lot of backup vocals:
And another reward is to play bass on your song. I will do this from my home studio. I come from the McCartney school of bouncy melodic bass lines. Here is a playlist of songs where the bass plays a prominent role.(On the playlists above, I'm also playing bass on all the songs.):
What Have You Ever Done to Help the World?
I've donated my music to a lot of good causes, including a spay/neuter campaign; a video to raise money for an organization (SafePlace) that helps survivors of domestic violence; no-budget filmmakers who need music. I've done PSAs promoting flu shots, seatbelt wearing, breastfeeding, environmental causes, and the like. Except for one mosquito (West Nile Virus), I haven't intentionally killed a bug in years. I even take scorpions outside.
Feel free to ask me any questions you may have about this project or my music. If you're interested in a particular reward but feel you need more info before committing to it, just ask. I'm here to help.
PLEASE SHARE THE LINK TO THIS KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN ON FACEBOOK, TWITTER, ETC. AND IF YOU KNOW ANY MUSIC BLOGGERS WHO MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN THIS PROJECT, SEND 'EM THIS WAY.
If you decide to get involved by contributing and/or spreading the word, I will be truly grateful. Thank you! -Andrea
Risks and challenges
Most of the work on this project has already been done, so the risk of it not being completed, once funded, is low. I have further reduced the risk by developing a large network of players, so if anyone drops out I have ready replacements at hand. I am highly motivated to complete this work and have a demonstrated track record to prove I finish things. Though the unexpected could always occur, I have done and will do everything in my power to deliver this album and your rewards to you. And I will post regular project updates, letting you know how things are progressing. The delivery dates of my rewards are conservative estimates. Things are more likely to be delivered before than after the listed dates, unless a TON of people happen to order the more work-intensive rewards. That could cause delays, but I am accessible and we can communicate with each other about it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
