Cafe St. Jorge is a rad cafe launching in San Francisco in the summer of 2013.
The goal: To create and to deliver an amazing space for you and the people of San Francisco to enjoy some really awesome food and coffee.
The background: Always dreaming of one day running my own cafe and bakery, I finally decided to take the plunge and quit my full-time job at the end of last year to make my life-long dream a reality.
I found a great location in the Mission/Bernal neighborhood of San Francisco and really look forward to supporting and growing with my new community with your help!
Making people happy through food, baking, and coffee is what I love to do and with your help I can do just that!
Growing up between California and Portugal (where my family is from and my dad lives), I had the incredible opportunity to experience many different foods and cultures. Pulling inspiration from my two worlds, I want to bring you a cafe and small scale bakery that I believe can be a wonderful community gathering space.
What is Cafe St. Jorge?
Cafe St. Jorge (www.cafestjorge.com) is my answer to bringing together my two homes and creating a beautiful and amazing space with amazing fresh food and (Stumptown!) coffee for you.
Named after my favorite Açorean Island and birthplace of the majority of my family, Cafe St. Jorge is a Portuguese-inspired cafe and bakery located in San Francisco providing organic locally-sourced fare, delicious freshly baked breads and pastries, and exceptional coffee that is real and unpretentious in a place where people can gather, relax, and enjoy some wonderful and friendly service.
Please help me give San Francisco an truly awesome gathering place with delicious noshes and make my vision come true and keep a little bit of Portugal alive in San Francisco.
The next step and what we need your help with is outfitting the space with all the tools we need to make incredible coffee, pastries, and food!
WHERE WILL YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS GO?
Your super appreciated contribution will help us:
• Purchase equipment to carry out the vision.
• Outfit the space to make it comfortable and authentic.
• Have the funds to make our space a place to call home, for not just us, but for our community.
Your contributions will immediately go to completing the remodel of the space, buying of equipment, and beautification of the restaurant. We are in need of buying kitchen equipment (fridges, ovens, blenders, etc.), an espresso machine, a coffee machine, and comfortable furniture. Making donations through Kickstarter is a way for you to help us make a great place to call home for all of us in the community.
Help us carry out the vision.
WHY BACK THIS PROJECT?
• You want to support me!
• You want to see an awesome new space in the neighborhood.
• You love Portuguese people and/or their food!
• You love good quality coffee and food!
Ultimately, remodeling, furnishing and beautifying the space costs way more than the $30,000 goal, but this is a way for YOU to become part of something/ the community. The remainder of the funding is coming from investors, lenders, and my own pocket.
Any amount raised above and beyond the $30,000 will be used to begin paying off those debts and making the cafe even more exceptional for you!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
There are many challenges inherent in this project, primarily in the form of potential delays. Because we have to coordinate many different parties in order to accomplish the renovation and permits (city, contractors, attorneys/admin, financing), there are many different points where delays can and will happen, especially because this is San Francisco. Did you know that you have to get a permit to paint over an existing outdoor sign? Or that you have to get all new equipment approved by the Health Department? Because you do....
With determination I believe we can work through any obstacle that comes our way!
