Who am I...?
I'm Anastasia and I'm a singer and composer. I create piano-driven music in the style of noir chamber pop. I'm Russian and I moved to Toronto 5 years ago. This is where I recorded and released my first album, Hour of The Wolf:
(You can find it on any streaming platform and in most online stores.)
The story behind the new record.
The new record I am working on is called Father. It's an 8-track LP inspired by the work of Carl Jung, Hermann Hesse and Andrey Tarkovsky but, first and foremost, by my personal experiences of the past two years. Behind each song there is a story... and the creation of this album is a very intimate journey that I'm daring to share with you.
From many of your messages and comments, I have learned that my voice and music have a soothing effect: they help reduce anxiety and stress. I'm hoping that this record will have a similar quality. It will be honest and intense, yet full of light and beauty.
What will it sound like?
Musically and sonically, the album is inspired by David Sylvian, Scott Walker and Thomas Feiner. This time I would like to create very special instrumentation and this is why I'm working with some of the most amazing musicians in Canada and Europe. Two songs will be a result of a collaboration with incredible Steve Jansen who is one of my absolute favourite musicians! The record will also feature and exceptionally talented cellist Raphael Weinroth-Browne, outstanding jazz musicians Julian Anderson-Bowes and Eric West and others. The songs are going to have beautiful string arrangements, upright bass, trumpet and more. Everything will be recorded and mixed by my absolute favourite sound producer/engineer Jeff McMurrich (who also worked on my first album) so you can be sure everything will sound perfect on your hi-fi system.
Why do I need your help?
I will use the funds for the studio rental and pay all of the musicians who are playing on the album and the sound engineer. Here are the numbers:
$675 - upright bass recording
$675 - drum recording
$2712 (2400 + HST) - grand piano recording (2 days studio rental + sound engineer's fee)
$904 (800 + HST) - vocal recording (1 day studio rental + sound engineer's fee)
$2712 (2400 + HST) - mixing (3 days Sonology studio rental)
$1130 (1000 + HST) - mastering
The sum I am asking for is 70% of the whole album budget. Other costs will include recording additional instruments ($2486 altogether) and all the CD/gift production ( around $785), shipping costs (I expect at least $500).
I have prepared a number of very special gifts and packages for you. Because Father is such a personal record, it feels right to make many of those gifts personalized (although I have simpler options like album download or a CD). Here is what I offer you for your pledges:
- Early album download
- Limited edition CD or USB drive with a copy of the album
- Special edition postcards and posters
- Handwritten lyrics and letters from me
- A personalized video
- Demos of the songs, high resolution photos and a lot more!
Risks and challenges
I am asking you for 70% of the whole budget because this money is absolutely crucial to proceed with the album recording. As long as I have this sum, I can make things work.
I have already recorded piano, vocals and cello for 3 songs (I had been saving up and managed to pay $1500 for this). The remaining 5 songs are ready to be recorded and all the arrangements have been made. All I need is funds to make it happen!
I am the only person behind this project and it's just me who is financing it. I don't have any sponsors or bandmates who would contribute to the budget, so yes, it's just me. And this is why I am counting on your collective effort to bring this project to life. ♡Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
