What's here, what's on its way, surveys, and important info for those of you who missed TCAF pickup!
I hope all of you have been enjoying your digital download of the Shitty Horoscopes anthology! If you haven't downloaded yours yet, please check your Kickstarter message inbox, there will be a link and a coupon code there to assist you in obtaining your DRM-Free PDF copy of the book. Hopefully this will tide you over while we wait for all of your awesome bonuses to complete the production process :)
What's following below is a pretty image-heavy update, since everyone likes process pictures and no one wants to get a wall of text emailed to them on a Tuesday. There's a whole bunch of books, boxes, stickers, Kickstarter-prints, and a patch update. Postcard-prints and screenprints are currently in production, and I'll be getting an update about them to you next week.
So let's get into it!
Whole Bunch'a Books, Envelopes, and Boxes
My den currently looks like a warehouse, but it's cool.
And about half of that space is being taken up by boxes upon boxes of books - thanks to our printer, TLAC!
And of course I've been horsing around carrying massive boxes of bubble wrap over my head, because this is the only opportunity I'll ever get to feel swole.
The Kickstarter-Exclusive 5.5"x8.5" Gold Print
For those of you who opted for a tier that included the 5.5"x8.5" print on gold, metallic Stardream coverstock (or added it to your pledge), here's the two test prints we ran! The printer and I opted to add a slight glossiness to the red-to-black transition in the ink, which registers much better in person. Postcard-print bonuses and screenprints are still in production, expect an update on those next week :)
So the majority of what all of you REALLY WANTED from this campaign is here, what are we waiting for? Well...
Stretch-Goal Bonuses - Updates and Delays
I'm happy to announce the arrival of the long-awaited leaf-nosed-bat & roses brushed-alloy stickers, which you can see being quite glossy and radiant right here. Their end measurements are approximately 1.75"x"3 instead of 2"x3" due to the fact that we opted for a contour-cut instead of a flat shape, and I personally think they look a lot better trimmed as close to the artwork as possible. The brushed-alloy we opted to print on is a great material, because the gold lines have a metallic shine.
The 3"x3" 100% embroidered crystal ball iron-on patches are what have been encountering a bit of a production delay. The initial proof took longer than expected, and the above is the first physical draft scanned in and sent to me by our producer this morning.
I wanted to beam you a progress picture since we're thinking of altering the black text to yellow/gold, and removing the outline around the text altogether. We figured making the text a more legible colour on the purple background would be a quick and easy fix since the outline messes with the readability - so expect another patch update when we sort that out!
And, as stated before, all the postcard-prints you backers get with your physical pledges will be ready by next week :)
So what's coming up in the meantime?
If you're a TCAF-level backer who missed the opportunity to pick up your book
I will be at the first ever Toronto Art Book Fair from June 17th - June 19th, 2016, vending under Musterni. Follow this link for further information on fair times, location, and other useful info. If you missed TCAF-pickup for any reason and you or one of your friends would like to arrange to grab your copy of the anthology in person, shoot me a line and let me know!
If you're not a TCAF backer but you will be in town for the Toronto Art Book Fair, please message me, and you can definitely pick up your copy of the anthology at the fair. I'll be selling surplus copies of the book that aren't reserved for Kickstarter backers (and therefore include no bonuses), along with zines, buttons and miniprints.
Also, a reminder that people who have opted for book pickup will still receive a survey asking for a valid address to ship all their bonuses and/or prints to.
Total Transparency and Shipping Surveys
As I stated below in the Risks and Challenges section of the campaign (aaall the way at the bottom of the campaign page if you scroll down), it's incredibly important to me to be as transparent as possible with all of you about shipping and production delays. My initial plan was to have all of the books and bonuses shipped out to everyone before the Toronto Art Book Fair so they would reach their destinations by early July, which means I would have sent out backer surveys asking for your addresses a week or more ago.
Because of the production delays we've run into with the crystal ball patch, you can still likely expect your books to arrive in July (hooray!), but closer to the end of it. Since the patch is being included at no extra charge with all physical reward tiers (that's every single person who's pledged for a print, book, or otherwise) I can't mail out reward packages without them, no matter how ready they might be to go, because you're all entitled to a cool bonus stuff as backers of this Kickstarter campaign.
As a result, you can expect shipping surveys to start going out in the next week, asking for your address and any other pertinent information in regards to getting your reward and bonuses out to you. If you’re a backer whose address will be changing in July or August, message me, and we can figure out when would be the most appropriate time and the best address to ship your rewards to you :)
And that’s a wrap for this mega-update! Future ones will hopefully be much shorter, and I’ll keep all of you posted on any new developments. If you have absolutely any questions, comments, or concerns, please click the little icon on the campaign page next to my name and beam me a message, I’d be happy to hear from you. In the meantime, please enjoy your digital copy of the anthology as I work toward getting all of your rewards and bonuses to you!
Thank you again for supporting the Shitty Horoscopes anthology,
