About this project
RAW must keep running to keep his power supply charged. As he smashes through enemies, he earns energy that makes him run faster. If RAW maxes out his energy, he may activate RAWesomeness mode, a short power-up that makes him incredibly fast and completely unstoppable. RAW's three basic moves are jump, dash, and shoot. These moves allow him to jump over, dash through, or just blow up anything in his way. This control scheme is simple enough to work on a smartphone, yet provides gameplay deep enough to be fun and interesting even on desktop.
We recently hosted a submission contest so that other musicians would have an opportunity to be a part of the project. The contest went amazingly well and we have more audio than we need! Now we would like YOU to help craft the game by voicing your opinions on the music and sound effects by voting on them on our Facebook page. We will post one category of songs each day until the end of this Kickstarter! Click here to vote!
What We Have
We have a working demo, a mostly complete (read: still being improved!) engine, a fully functional level editor, and all the designs to fit the pieces together. We also have a large portion of the art resources completed and, thanks to some awesome musicians, the sound is taken care of.
What We Need
$5,000 may seem like a lot, but it is actually only enough to cover expenses. Currently, we live off of money from our day jobs, but would love to make enough from video games to do it full time. The money from this kickstarter covers the following costs and more:
- The cost of running a kickstarter! Almost 10% of our funding is taken as various fees.
- Paying the cost of the rewards. We are, after all, trying to raise funds not sell things at wholesale costs.
- Compensating our amazing musicians. Over $800 is being given as cash rewards for the music contest.
- Purchasing an OUYA dev-kit. The $700 developer kit will arrive early so we can make sure our game is ready as soon as possible.
- Business and legal costs. Make sure we're covered legally so we can focus on making awesome games and not worrying about lawsuits!
- Promotion and other expenses. Even just hosting a website costs money. We also need cash to do awesome things like put the game on Steam Greenlight!
All of the rewards should be self-explanatory except for the $25 reward level. The comic book will be a physical, printed paperback book that includes all of the comic pages from the game. It will also include the short story version of RAW which is about 30 pages long. It's a great collector's item and an interesting read if you are into short stories or graphic novels!
$10,000 - iWant to Play!
If we can raise $10,000 we will be able to cover the expenses necessary to publish RAW on iOS. This means players will be able to enjoy the game on iPhone and iPad!
$15,000 - Decor Galore!
At $15,000, every backer gets an exclusive downloadable wallpaper that won’t be made available anywhere else. Backers who pledge $25 or more get an extra physical poster included with their reward!
$20,000 - Multiplayer Mayhem!
With $20,000 we will be able to devote enough time to RAW to add a gameplay mode we’ve been really excited about: multiplayer. We have some great ideas for “race” and ”battle”-type scenarios that will take extra time to develop.
If you can't support the project by becoming a backer, or if you have already backed the project and want to do more, you can help us by joining our online presence. Risks and challenges
Our greatest risks and our greatest challenges are the same single fact: we currently can not create video games full time. We have yet to make money off of our games and that means we have to keep day jobs which take up a large portion of our time and energy. If RAW becomes successful enough, we will be able to devote ourselves to Detour Games full-time. Because we don't have 40+ hours a week to work on this project, our biggest challenge becomes the time it will take us. We will make our best efforts to deliver the game as fast as we can, but we do run the risk of having delays. We have faith that our backers and our fans will come through and allow us to make the greatest games that we possibly can! So, again, thank you to every single one of our supporters.
