Thanks for checking out our campaign! Let me cut to the chase: We're raising funds to support the finishing of our latest short film, a horror set in a roller rink, aptly entitle, "The Rink." We shot this short using a visually amazing location, Austin Roller Rink, over three days in late February, early March. We are now raising the necessary post-production funds needed for sound edit and mix, and festival submission fees to finish the project and get it out into the world so it can find its audience.
We need to raise $4,000 in order to position the film for what we hope will be a fantastically chilling final product and a successful festival run.
We've assembled a strong team behind this project. This includes Carrie and Kyle Cates of Living Pictures Film, Brent Graham and Amanda Farmer of Dreamo Moviefilms, Travis Ward serving once again as Director of Photography, actors Andrea Caranza, KarrieAnn Randol, Peggy Shott, and Michael Fruge in lead roles, and the incredible, Emmy nominated Meredith Johns of Hawgfly Productions! She has led the team behind the special effects makeup for projects like Machete, Temple Grandin, Stoker, the Leftovers, and many more. It was incredibly exciting to collaborate with her on this project, employ her skills toward our practical effects, and watch her make The Rink into a full on blood bath. We also were lucky to snag New York based actor, Lukas Hassel, known for The Blacklist and Blue Bloods, in one of the short's most terrifying roles, seen here:
There's just one team member left to join the crew: YOU!
If you decide to pledge to The Rink, you can rest assured that we'll use your funds it to take this project to the next level! For sound edit/mix we’ve attached the talented Darin Heinis on the project. If you follow Short Pictures Independent, you'll know that he did this work for my last feature film, Good Feels on Wheels, and I can attest to the difference his expertise has made! Impressively, his credits also include Last Man on Earth and Sons of Anarchy. With 20 years of experience in the industry, this dude is as legit as they come and my team and I agree that he is an important asset to help us finish this thing strong! Additional funds will also support submitting The Rink to as many festivals as possible, and each festival typically requires $30-80 in fees.
We're so hopeful that you'll consider joining The Rink's team and pitching in toward our post production funds. Of course, we've sweetened the deal with some disco themed incentives: check them out!
Every dollar counts. We'd really appreciate your help--both donations and sharing the campaign!
What is The Rink about?
The Rink is a horror short with a love story at its center, and dark comedy sprinkled throughout. The story opens at a roller rink in the dead of night, following two young women, Lo and Mae. We see Lo in the nervous process of asking Mae something important. Looming around them in the roller rink, are a strange cast of characters that we ascertain are Lo’s compadres. At the center of this group is an older man named Bill, who seems to have power among them, and a young woman named Tess, who is eerily skating the rink alone.
As the dialogue advances, it becomes clear that Lo is proposing to Mae, but not in the way that you might expect. Lo narrows in on her “big question,” but the process is interrupted. This is when the shit hits the fan...What shit? And what fan? You'll just have to wait and see the mayhem unfold.
