A love letter to the bourbon subculture through a look at the impassioned fan base of one highly sought-after cult brand.
What is this project
I make films about Americana. I love the things that people go crazy over--that they love, cherish and even obsess about. I also love whiskey, so this project is perfect. I want to dive into the subculture of bourbon enthusiasts in America and learn about the people, the places and the products that make this culture tick. To accomplish that goal, I'm going to be telling a story that any bourbon enthusiast knows well--the seasonal Pappy hunt. That time of year when the next allocation of a particular cult brand of adored bourbon is released; a brand whose very popularity also makes it a rarity. In this short subject documentary, I want to meet everyone I can, and tell their story, and entertain people in the process.
Why you should care
If you're reading this as a bourbon enthusiast, you know why you should care. But if you're reading this as a lover of film, you also know that magical things happen every day in this world that no one even knows about--and telling those stories is the most fun of all. This film will be energetic, irreverent, unkempt and funny. It will introduce the bourbon subculture to the rest of America, and have a great time doing it.
Can we do more?
Absolutely. The funding limit for this film is a bare minimum--it's literally just our travel expenses. But promotion and distribution can be a lot more expensive, so don't stop just because we've reached our goal. The more resources we have, the better film we can create, and the more people we can involve, and the more fun we can have!
