A film series in which queer mystics face down the things that go bump in the night, and maybe get a taste of enlightenment on the way.
Before reading this make sure you watch our teaser trailer and director in the video!
So we're Kin Kame Productions. While the name is new, I promise we're well seasoned student filmmakers. We're a bunch of senior and alumni students from the University of South Carolina, who decided we wanted to do one final big project together.
As most people know, there's a serious lack of queer characters out there in the media-verse. Especially of the non-stereotypical variety. So our wonderful writer and director David Aaron Johnson (who you see talking at the end of the video) came up with this universe of mystic arts through a Buddhist lens, where the main characters in all the shorts were queer. We loved the story and the characters and we hope you guys do too.
Here in the deep South it's hard to get a conversation going on about these topics, much less make an entire series about them, but we're trying and we need your help.
Aaron has never shied from big elaborate sets and costumes, so that's where most of this money is going. It also goes to help pay for food on long shooting days and for renting out our locations. $3,000 is still a pretty cheap budget for what we intend to be around three 10-minute short films. But if we have no costumes then we have no cult and if we have no cult then we have no movie. :(
So if you want to see queer representation or see philosophy in action instead of just text on a page, then please, help us make this project a reality.
The answer is YES! For example, if you pledge $25 dollars, then not only do you get the DVD but you also get the FB shoutout, Thank You card, and the advanced screening. So the more you donate, the more prizes you get!
