About this project
While walking through an abandoned textile mill one afternoon, we visualized the place in its heyday—with machines running, workers bustling about and their voices echoing among the rusting girders. We wanted to reclaim a sense of that determined spirit and remind people about what made this country great. As that dream blossomed the core tenants of our company grew. Our goal is to create handcrafted products from reclaimed materials employing people here in America who want to work but are often overlooked due to certain disabilities. In doing so we wish to stand as a model and resource so that other companies can do the same. We realize that we are doing more than just fashioning a product and as a company we can be an instrument of change and inspiration to our associates and the communities we serve.
American Echoes desires through all aspects of our operation to care for the environment, foster a relationship with people and community and build products in the United States that can be cherished for years to come. We believe these values and concerns echo the very essence of our great nation through the products we create and deliver.
Why American Echoes Needs Kickstarter
I am making these flags one at a time in my garage for individuals who have been purchasing them from my website. As orders increased I hired one person to help me to assemble them. I also arranged for some of the preliminary work, (sorting and cutting) to be done at Evergreen Skills. In order to do this I had to make a substantial investment in a saw that would be safe enough for them to use. Since that time I have had many requests to bring these flags to the retail market to be sold in stores. However, the stores biggest fear is that we will not be able to keep up with their demand. In order to meet their minimum expectations I will need to have more processes done at Evergreen, or contract the work to another carpentry shop. In either case I will need to purchase some tooling, fixtures and equipment, as well as guarantee a set amount of hours for the workers. The total investment I will need to make in order to achieve this level of production is approximately $25,500. As a small start-up I can not afford to make this investment on my own, especially if people are not excited about our product. This is why I need your help. If I am funded I will be able to meet the minimums to start production immediately, and be able to realize my dream of having my product on store shelves across the country.
About the Artist
Michael Scott Standridge is an American artist and designer who has created some of the most popular products for three of the worlds largest hard surface manufacturers. Most recently, Michael has founded a new business called American Echoes, Inc, a company with a multifaceted vision: first, to create aesthetically pleasing home decor products made from responsible sources; next, to create these products here in the USA, employing disabled citizens; finally, to function as a valuable resource for companies to creatively repurpose their post industrial reclaimed wood.
About Our Products
Our standard size flags are made from post industrial reclaimed wood and eco friendly paints. Each weighs approximately 7 pounds and measures approximately 20” x 34” x 1”. Size and weight can vary slightly because our wood is reclaimed. Each piece is made by hand so each piece is 100% unique and no two are exactly alike. Most of all, we take great pride in the fact that we can say we are “Made in America”.

Risks and challenges
Although I currently have established relationships with two major wood products companies, to obtain a steady stream of post industrial reclaimed materials, if orders are extremely heavy, we may have a temporary delivery challenge. This delay would last until the raw material supply catches up with orders or I find additional suppliers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
