About this project
American Brewed started between two friends over a discussion about our love for craft beer. Both of us engaging in home and professional brewing a like, we continued to want to explore more of who and what goes into the beers that we love. Every beer tells a story, it is an expression of the people and the community around that person that influences every bottle.
Here at American Brewed, we plan on showcasing this amazing experience with everyone. Brewing is more than just a business, it is a way for people to express themselves and by doing so, craft beer has become a catalyst for different people to meet and share their experiences. There is a striving community that was built out of the love of craft beer.
We decided that in keeping with the tradition of community, we would use a free web series platform. A free web series would offer the most tangible way to reach a wide and diverse audience. Our co creator and producer, Shane, has vast film making experience and understands the ins and outs of production, to ensure that the show maintains a level of quality that will set American Brewed apart from other shows. It is important to us that we show an honest portrayal of the hardworking individuals that make the beer that we love. American Brewed will move away from the constructs of reality television and keep our focus on the beer and the people. By removing the focus of made up drama, we will film everyday life and honest testamonies from the brewers themselves and give our viewers a sense of what it is like in their world. We plan on having a host to kick off the episode, but once inside, the show will be driven by the brewers and people that make each brewery tick.
As of right now, we are in the preproduction phases. Our production schedule starts in June and we plan on releasing the first episode in September. The first season will have 9 episodes and we will release one episode a week. We already have some great and big name craft breweries that have signed on for the first season, Such as Mayflower out of Plymouth Massachusetts and Foolproof brewing out of Rhode Island. (can't tell you them all, we need to keep some level of surprise!)
One of our biggest focuses with this show is quality. To ensure that, we are looking for equipment upgrades. Right now we are filming on a canon 60d and we plan on using DSLR cameras for this shoot, we need something of better quality, so we plan on upgrading to a canon 5d. We also need lenses to coincide with the camera. Also, our lighting and our mics are in need of upgrading. Since right now all of American Brewed is done with such a limited budget, we need the small amount that will be left over to maintain our website and the costs to host it, day to day tasks, as well as small production needs such as, transportation. Risks and challenges
Like all projects, there is always the potential of risks and challenges. In film making, most of the challenges come from the actual production. There is always risk of crew members or potential brewers backing out at the last minute, something breaking, or difficulties with technologies general ware and tare. In order to combat these challenges, American Brewed has a staff that is well experienced in all aspects of production to ensure professional quality throughout. We also have a back up camera, memory cards, and we inspect our equipment before every shoot. To ensure that we don't run into technological malfunctions we will also back up all our files during the shoot, to ensure that nothing is wrong and if there is, we will be able to address them right then and there, which gives us the ability to make sure everything is going as planned. On top of that, we have multiple laptops and external hard drives to back up our files even further.
Another potential issue we would have is viewership. Interacting with our audience and keeping them interested is a main priority. To make sure we maintain this audience we are constantly updating on our social media platforms and expanding our viewership daily. As we stand now, we gain around 100 to 150 followers a day on instagram. Since a webseries is a visual medium, we feel that instagram is a great focus for us. We look forward to facing and overcoming our obstacles to give our fans a free and entertaining experience.
