We want to offer our prints in different sizes so that tweets can decorate your walls in more ways. Framed on a desk or a bookshelf? Hanging in your home office? If we can get to $30,000 in pledges, all of you who have pledged at the $25 level or over will receive an A5 size print of your choice along with your pledge level rewards. This money will go towards the programming cost for a new size, the designing cost for re-fitting our designs on a smaller scale, and the materials for making the prints.
Finally it’s time to launch our art experiment to the world. We’ve reimagined the art print in order to fulfil our dream of homes filled with personalized works of art. Using meticulous design and smart programming we merge any tweet of your choosing with artists’ creativity to produce a one-of-a-kind art print that tells your personal story. We wanted to create personal art prints - something more than just typing in words to put up on your wall. We want something where more thought goes into the words, where every letter matters. And then it hit us: Twitter.
We see Twitter as an interesting way to bridge the digital world with the analog. We have created Onehundredforty to allow you to preserve any funny or inspiring tweet that grabs you - by turning it into a completely personal work of art.
Onehundredforty is not an online create-your-own-poster website, or a place to upload an image and get it printed. Each design is carefully crafted by one of our artists, and each top level design comes in several combinations of colors, typefaces and graphics. Designs are made up of several different components, and a set of rules determines how these components are to be combined, including a grid system which adapts to the length of any tweet. If you’re not pleased with the result, you can simply click refresh and see a new design for your tweet.
We want every print to be unique. Any given tweet can only be purchased once for every design combination. This means it's not possible for anyone else to own the same print as you, ensuring complete originality. At launch we will feature 15 different artists with 50 original designs and over 5000 possible design outcomes. And that’s just the beginning!
To celebrate the Kickstarter campaign, our Art Director Albin Holmqvist has made a one-of-a-kind, limited-edition print design for Kickstarter backers only. This is a "once in a life print" opportunity!
Developing the site we have been focusing on three main principles. The first: to allow for a wide variety of design implementations. We don’t want artists to be limited by the system, but rather make a system that can scale and adapt to their vision. We believe this is the only way to create something that has a real artistic value, rather than a computer-generated feel.
Second, we ensure that each design combination looks its best by linking certain fonts, colors and images together. This requires a close collaboration between the artist and the developer in constructing a specific framework around each design.
Third, it has to be simple to find that perfect tweet from the 500 million tweets added each day. To solve this problem we are developing our own ranking system that takes both content and visual value into consideration to find something personal that looks great on your wall.
Quality is everything. We take great pride in the quality of our work. All of our prints are high quality giclée and the 300 gr/m2 untreated natural paper stock has a lovely tactile feel and works beautifully either framed or unframed. We inspect and hand-emboss every print that leaves our shop. We provide handwritten signatures from the artist, pack all the prints in silk paper and use a sturdy cardboard tube to ensure a safe delivery worldwide. All in all, we treat your art with the respect it deserves.

The folks at Well Made have created STiiCKs, a really smart framing solution, sourced and made in the U.S. It consists of two wooden bars that hold your print in place through strong magnets. STiiCKs are available in oak, walnut, black or white (images show “oak”), so you can pick the set that fits your home the best.
We’re a friendly group of creatives from Stockholm, Sweden, who got tired of seeing the same mass-produced art prints and posters cluttering the walls of homes and public spaces. So we decided to do something about it.
At our agency we have a tradition where we make personal prints for those who move on to new adventures as something to remember us by.
A year ago we started thinking, what if we could recreate that experience for people everywhere? What if we could make art prints that not only look beautiful from a far, have a personal and “readable” story to tell when you get up close? Two years later, we are proud to present Onehundredforty.
By day we work as a creative agency to make smart campaigns and projects for brands around the world. By night we dream of being free artists - without briefs, budgets or conference calls. We’re an agile, dynamic group of designers, programmers, film-makers, strategists, PR-people, animators and project managers that have the skills and know-how to turn this idea into reality.
We want Onehundredforty to become more than just our private design playground. So we’ve built an open system to allow contributions from artists, designers, font factories and photographers from all over the world. Our in-house staff curate the collection to ensure consistent design integrity. Together we aim to make this a living organism, a constantly evolving gallery of designs and memorable words.

This is an art experiment. We don’t know how it’s going to end. It’s not going to be the new Facebook (we’re pretty sure). So designers will probably have to wait awhile before quitting their day jobs. Our payment system ensures fair compensation to all contributors to Onehundredforty. We also have a whole section on the site celebrating the designers and font factories we collaborate with. This is truly a collective effort.
We want Onehundredforty to be affordable. Our fixed price of $55 per print covers the artist’s fee, all production costs, packaging and international shipping!
We’ve come a long way, but we need your help. Help us spread the word, get artists on board and expand our printing studio (right now we print on one printer in the corner of our office). So please pledge - and don’t forget to share the project with your friends, family and Twitter acquaintances!
Risks and challenges
Below are some of the challenges we’re facing. We’ve listed them to help give you better understanding of what your pledge money will be used for (we promise it’s not too technical).
1. Development of the algorithm
The development of the algorithm that creates the prints based on your tweet is up and running. However, we are still adding functionality and new designs to the site that may require adjustments and/or modifications to the system. In other words, lots of additional working hours for our developers.
2. Timely shipping of the Kickstarter prints
We’re currently managing all the printing and shipping in-house. Thus, resources for printing and packaging are limited. If we receive a tremendous amount of demand, we’ll engage an external print service of comparable quality to ensure timely delivery.
3. Implementation of new designs
Every new design needs to be manually implemented into our system in order to ensure scalability. This takes some time and not all submitted designs will work. This can affect the number of available designs upon launch of Onehundredforty. However, we are refining our briefing document for designers and working closely with them to make sure that all designs can be submitted successfully.
