24,883 backers pledged $1,192,793 to help bring this project to life.

welcome to the project! HOLY FUCK.

we did it, dear comrades.
we're doing it.
do you see what's happening for cry-eye?
i thought this would work, but i didn't know it would fucking EXPLODE!!!!!!

i have so much to say to you all, but let me point out the most important thing, really, truly:
YOU GUYS CREATED THE RAGING FIRESTORM that made this crazed success possible.

from the moment we launched, i watched you all spreading the link, creating facebook groups to get the house parties, supporting at whatever level you could, telling people what you'd done…i watched the twittersphere and blogosphere going BERSERK with shared information: that was YOU, that was not me.

it's still happening.
the word about the record and the kickstarter is spreading like madness....via the people who are supporting it.
THAT'S HOW IT WORKS. so THANK YOU. we all did this together.
thank you not only for backing at whatever level you did: but for BEING THE MEDIA.
no rolling stone, no spin, no TV, no radio...none of that.
this is the new way, motherfuckers: we come first - the media follows. not the other way around.
we all went to work and we all did our part to spread the information.

and look what it did.

the whole world is watching, and it's awesome.
the SCALE of this means we're making history.

i've been doing this crazy job for a long, long time.
and i've never felt stronger, braver, and more supported...i feel like i'm crowdsurfing on a sea of 10,000 loving arms.
it's the best feeling in the world.

you're going to be getting lots of updates from me and the team, starting NOW...and i'm going to try my darndest to make you all thrilled and happy as hell that you chose to back this epic undertaking.

and seriously? WAIT UNTIL YOU HEAR THE're going to flip your shit.

i go into the NYC mastering studio with john & michael this thursday to finalize the sound and song order.
i'll try to get some video for you.

i love you all so much.
i'm in a bit of a daze.
things are about to GO MENTAL....thanks for being on this beautiful ride with me, the band, and my whole team.

yesterday we did a photoshoot in NYC with my friend kyle cassidy...and this one's for you guys:

p.s. since this is the first big kickstarter i'm running, i'd love to hear your specific opinion about WHAT you'd like to be updated on. i have my list and crazy ideas, of course, but if you have ideas/questions/feedback, hit us in the comments. we read them all. HERE WE GO YO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love that Kickstarter gives us this direct ability to fund your project. You're absolutely right, Amanda, this IS the future of music. We ARE the Media. I'm happy and proud to be a part of the AFP Army!

Amanda, you are fucking amazing, don't know how my musical life survived before you came along, can't believe i am going to get to see you at long last in London, and on my birthday too, what a birthday present.
Hope everything you do goes MEGA as you deserve everything, there is nobody to compare, you are a fucking genius.
Any chance you willbe around after the London gig for a autograph please?
      Much love to you all.xxxx

I'm lucky, I heard lots of the songs at two gigs here in Melbourne, well, actually at the Northcote Social Club :-)

Amanda, it was your voice that kept me from stabbing people's eyes out durring the last 6 years i spent in the Navy, and for that, I love you. For that I gladly donated some of the last few dollars I had from my last Military pay check. I now move on to scrape together enough cash to attend the acoustic show in sf, despite having procured my plugged in ticket. I cannot wait to see you, i only hope that i might get to actually meet you and exchange a few words.

update requests: money details. really! this is the revolution. labels get away with their shit by not being utterly transparent about where the money is going. it'd be inspirational to us (well, me) to see our money (even my lousy $2) getting to work - this much for mixing, this much for promo, this much to make one of the house parties happen. just something to consider.

I'm just happy this is happening and hope it is a trend for the future to live without massive corporations supplying the funds and controlling the art. My dream is to see community prosper where every person helps each other. People Power all the way! Fuck you big Corporate Jerks and keep on keeping on the AFPs of the world!

    14. Sarah Brannan on May 10, 2012

Cheaper paperbook version of the art book? Can't wait for the album!

I'm so psyched for you, AFP. AND MY MAILBOX INVASION. I am also psyched for that. Updates I'd love to see: Bloggy things, though I can't imagine how you'll have time for that -- is shooting a video blog occasionally possible? You've mentioned that can take less time in the past. I can't even begin to imagine what sort of amazing kick ass roller coaster you're going to be on from now until pretty much infinity over this. I'd love to see how that goes for you, and hear your thoughts on what it is like to be on the curly edge of an amazing TUBULAR FUTURE-WAVE.

    16. Chloe on May 9, 2012

I think one of the things that makes y'all so successful is the behind the scenes tweeting of your REAL life and not just what we see on the surface, so just moar of that plz.

Also, I like Elle Greene's suggestion of having fan art auctioned off.... or like the Dresden dolls books that had all the fan art and your stories behind the songs. That was pretty kickass.

When the dust settles, I'd like to know how many $x pledges were for more than $x. Did we all round up a little bit, or was the price exactly right?

So many AFP fans are creatives, how about AFP fans who are artists make art for you to auction off?

    20. Marygrace DeLucchi on May 8, 2012

Odds of the Neil/Kyle book being made available anywhere else/anyhow else? Would love it, but pledged to art show 'cause I doesn't has $1000 so easy.

Special backer T shirts would be absolutely amazing, I agree with Tegan.

    24. Andrea Boyd on May 7, 2012

It would be interesting to see how the money is used for your album. We never see that side of the music. We don't normally see the business side of things. Also what cool things are you going to do with the extra surprise money? The artistic side is fun to watch..but maybe we need to know what our cash does to help a project. I am excited for you and to see where this all goes.:)

    25. Tina Miskovsky on May 7, 2012

You came thru as the Dresden Dolls in Norfolk, Va. back awhile ago....I'm dying to see you again, as is this whole area, it was at the Norva. You are a strong force and my daughter who is only 9 loves your music as well! Please make more tour dates available!!! I can't wait to hear your new music!

Amanda, as I sit here looking at your first Dresden Doll CD in its little cardboard cover, I am thrilled by what you have accomplished. My wife, Mary Esther, loves your music too; really enjoyed your show in Boston a few years ago at the Orpheum. You've come a long way since the days of the Bride and the dead voter demonstration in Cambridge MA. We sprung for the $25 package and posted you on my Facebook page. Congratulations. You're doing it!!!

    32. Karina Cetin on May 7, 2012

i think you are blogging about it anyway but i believe it would be a good idea to provide a sort of break down of where the money will be going. i am tired of seeing so many comments exclaiming how you are rich now and lardy dah rainbows and unicorns, when that isn't quite reality.

I know that $500,000 is probably a modest budget for a major label superstar, and even though this is you we are talking about, someone who can stretch money very far by not spending it on bullshit, but i still think it would be beneficial to SHOW people. More so to educate others on how fucking expensive it is to write, record, produce, manufacture, promote and then tour an album. Especially considering a great deal of the money you raise via kickstarter is going straight back to fees and then manufacturing of all the rewards.

I have to say I am NOT surprised, because as someone who has read your blog and followed you on Twitter for quite awhile now, and seen how you interact with your fans, well....this is how it should have been done all along. Backing your Kickstarter is like buying stock in a (new) company...I get to help it get started and as my reward I can say, "I was in there at the beginning..I knew this would be a BIG THING....I want to buy the NYC thing but I live in PA and Brooklyn is so daunting to me....four days alone in NYC is scary...but I may do it anyway because life is short and what could happen besides delirious happiness and wonderful experiences.....

I like the idea with T-shirts, would definitely get at least one :)

      THANK YOU!

    35. Tegan on May 7, 2012

I have suggested this on the Twit-sphere already but T-SHIRTS! I want to be able to identify my fellow backers when we are walking down the street and hug them fiercely and say "Me too! Backed her when she was only 22% funded, we are the fucking media!" Then we can sit and talk and cry and sing AFP songs out of tune and loudly while other people wonder forlournly about what they are missing out on. Peace, love, AFP&GTO always xoxo

    36. Wolf Mathes on May 7, 2012

Seeing how your funding will probably exceed costs by hundredthousands if not millions of of dollars, which will probably be pure profit to you guys. How about, when reaching a certain number, giving the Album away for free to everyone who desires it? This would truely set a sign :)

    37. Dineke van Aalst on May 7, 2012

      Dear Amanda and team,
My question is this: where can I send a reply to your thank you card saying, as is the polite thing to do, you're welcome/my absolute pleasure/thank YOU. ;-)

I love hearing about inspiration behind things. The driving force, the meaning, the emotion. I like hearing about the art of designing things besides the music as well, even down to how you express yourself in a fashion sense. Everything comes from something, and I enjoy hearing about the background behind choices :)
