$7,000 STRETCH GOAL -- UNLOCKED!!! CHECK BELOW TO SEE HOW TO PLEDGE FOR AFTERNOON DELIGHT!
Hi Kickstarter! I’m Lucas, maker of Green Alert. I made my first batch of Green Alert as an experiment, brewing coffee and green tea in a French press one morning at work. I took a tentative sip and was delighted by the taste—the simple, nuttiness of green tea mixed wonderfully with the rich earthy coffee flavors. And I was amazed by how much energy I got from that cup. I was ALERT, with laser focus, and I stayed that way for hours. My second cup kept me going for the rest of the day. The best thing? Despite the rush of energy, I didn't get jittery, and I didn't crash.
Pretty soon I was brewing Green Alert for everyone who would try it, and I was experimenting with different blends. I worked with coffee and tea distributors to find the right combination of ingredients and flavors, creating mixes I loved. Then I hosted tasting parties and fine tuned the recipes based off feedback. The results? We took the flavor to eleven, and the energy kept coming. One woman told me she ran the fastest 5K of her life after a cup of Green Alert, and so many people responded with excitement that I knew I had to share it with everyone.
TWO DISTINCT BLENDS
We're launching Green Alert with two different blends: we call them Primal and Refresh. However! This Kickstarter has also unlocked a limited-time-only blend called Afternoon Delight--check that one out at the base of the page.
Wulu Green Tea & Dark Sumatran Coffee
Made from organic, fair trade Sumatran coffee and organic, fair trade Wulu green tea from the Hubei province of China, this primal blend of Green Alert displays coffee and tea flavors in stark, honest terms--well balanced but distinct. This is a strong blend for those who live life big and bold, disdain California rolls and go straight for the Sashimi, and drink their single malt Scotch straight up.
Moroccan Mint Tea & Dark Ethiopian Coffee
The Refresh blend is made from organic, fair trade Ethiopian coffee and organic, fair trade Moroccan mint tea. It's made for those who love the sensuous things in life. Rich chocolate cake, tiramisu, relaxing on the beach. Want a treat? Cold press this delicious mixture or simply poor it over ice and enjoy on a hot summer day.
RAVES AND REVIEWS
Review from Colin Mansfield at Boise Coffee
On Primal: "The Primal specifically gave off both the smell of fresh dark coffee, and the light freshness of green tea all at once, yet these odors complimented and danced around each other in a most pleasant way…[When I sipped it,] I could taste the dark Sumatran – which was clearly roasted well – as well as the Wulu Green Tea all at once, and neither flavor crowded or influenced the other. I can’t express how surprised I was to discover this, and how happy it made me!"
On Refresh: "I’ve never been a big mint person, but I found the Moroccan Mint Tea to be as subtle as it was tasty, and a perfect complement to Ethiopian dark roast. It was refreshing, crisp, and full of flavor."
Review from Benji Walklet at The Coffee Concierge
On Refresh: "A very clever and refreshing drink that is just in time for Summer and the general cold brew hysteria that is taking over the country."
On Primal: "The taste itself was a nice balance of green tea and coffee, with the green tea making up the majority of the initial flavor and the coffee making up the majority of the aftertaste... [T]he ratio was carefully thought out."
You can make Green Alert just like regular coffee. I use a French press, heating the water to about 180°F. For a strong brew, use 3 tbs of Green Alert per mug (about 300 ml of water). Steep for 3.5 minutes, then decant and serve. Just like coffee, some people like Green Alert with cream and sugar. While I prefer a French press or pour-over coffee maker, others are happy making Green Alert with a regular drip maker. Serve hot or pour over ice for a delicious summer drink. Experiment, and enjoy!
What gives drinkers sustained energy? When you combine coffee and green tea, you actually get more caffeine than your regular brew. Green tea also contains a substance called theanine. Caffeine and theanine are the key ingredients in typical energy drinks like Redbull, but Green Alert is made from organic, fair trade ingredients without any preservatives or additives — an energy drink you can feel good about drinking.
Green Alert is full of healthy antioxidants. Published research suggests a slew of health benefits for coffee and green tea, including improved memory, cell damage prevention, improved blood flow, lower cholesterol, prevention of a range of heart-related issues, and more. Green Alert combines coffee and green tea into an energizing, organic drink to start your day strong.
YOUR ENVIRONMENT: ORGANIC, FAIR TRADE CERTIFIED
I worked to get Green Alert certified as both organic and fair trade, creating a premium product with ingredients I feel good about. Green Alert is a drink that checks all my boxes--it tastes great, it makes me feel fantastic, and I can drink it knowing it's both free of chemicals and that the people who produce the ingredients are treated with dignity. It added cost and complexity, but I hope you agree it's worth the effort.
FREE U.S. SHIPPING!
This is one of those easily overlooked details that I want to brag about, because it took several days to figure out how to get shipping costs down to a manageable level for this Kickstarter, and not have to pass costs on to you. Enjoy free shipping!
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
Tea, especially high-end fair trade organic tea, is expensive. The green tea almost doubles our product cost, and we have to order large quantities to make this work. That's why we're running a Kickstarter to get things going.
There are other things that this Kickstarter will help pay for, including IT support for our webpage and promotional activities. Getting a product to market is expensive, and your support is needed and appreciated.
Presenting the designs for the Green Alert t-shirts, available as an add-on with any reward level. The women's is a Jr. Jersey t-shirt (sizes S-XL) and the men's is a Custom Ringer t-shirt (size S-2XL). All 100% cotton. The t-shirts are available as a $20 add-on for backers at any giving level.
Drink your Green Alert in style! Add $8 to any reward level to get the official Green Alert mug.
$7,000: Afternoon Delight - Unlocked!
Our limited edition Afternoon Delight is available for order! Afternoon Delight is a decaf Peruvian light roast coffee and a Jade green tea. The floral notes of the coffee and tea mix wonderfully together. I call it Afternoon Delight because it's the perfect cup for after 3PM, when you don't want to load yourself down with caffeine but still could use a lift to the end of the day.
Remember, Afternoon Delight is a limited edition, so if you want to try it, now's the time! We are concentrating on the Refresh and Primal after the launch, and won't be immediately releasing Afternoon Delight.
If you've already pledged and want to add Afternoon Delight to your current order, just update your order with an additional $16 for a 12oz bag, or $8 for a 4oz bag. Multiple add-ons accepted.
$10,000: Chai Me!
At $10,000, we'll make Chai Me! available, a version with Chai tea that will also only be available to Kickstarter fans (at least at first!).
While much of this was written in the first person, there's a passionate team behind Green Alert that brings an assortment of talents to this project.
Partners in this venture: Sarah Schram, Jessica Armbruster, and (of course) Kathryn Bergmann. Thanks to Todd Wardrope at TMVS for his video production help, and Amy Danielson for her marketing support. And THANK YOU to all my friends and colleagues who have come over to try out Green Alert, giving advice and encouraging me to continue pushing my product forward.

Risks and challenges
Every product launch has risks and challenges. We have good relationships with our coffee and tea suppliers, however, and we've worked through shipping details in full. We believe that we have worked out the issues to deliver our product in good time, and we have a good team capable of handling any issues as they arise.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
