Ascension of the Galaxy is the rich, maneuver-based spaceship combat game where thinking ahead is not optional. Plenty of decisions have to be made every turn.
Although this is a print-and-play game, you could easily use your own space mat with a hex-grid and miniatures to use making for a beautiful gaming experience.
Risks and challenges
The best part about this is the game will be delivered approx. 2 weeks after the KS is over. The game has been done for a good while but sat in limbo while deciding whether to go the way of full-on publishing or go the PDF route.
Space games have always been a niche market. I could have simply set the price at $19-$24 for the rulebook and leave it at that. However, my thinking is that the game could potentially gain a wide audience if the price was right.
Kickstarters, and games in general cost so much anymore. I see more and more people complain about their "wall of shame" of games they paid good money for, and have not yet played or played once and now gathers dust.
With this strategy, no one can lose! Even if you play AotG ONCE, you've sat back, relaxed, played a new game for a night...for a dollar!
Starting from a simple game called Payday from Parker Brothers when I was six years old, to owning my own game store and now working for Wargame/RPG legend Columbia Games, I've been happy to be a part of this thing we call board gaming!
I have had a fascination with space combat games I have been lucky to playtest both for;
Silent Death - Iron Crown Enterprises
Starfleet Commander: War and Peace - ADB
These, and Jon Tuffley's wonderful Full Thrust. are the best spaceship combat games I still have ever seen.
Even with these great games, I found there is room to "bridge the gap" between fast action and deeper thinking. This is what Ascension of the Galaxy is made for.
