Supporting this Kickstarter project will allow this game to be heavily upgraded with the proper graphics and artwork that it deserves. What you are seeing right now is no where close to how it will look when the game is complete. I've done my best, but I'm certainly no graphic artist.

We understand too well what artists go through to make ends meet. We would not ask any of them to draw and create for us without the proper compensation. When this project is funded, money will be set aside for the artists we have on standby (some of them won awards at the Origins Game Fair last year), ready to add some great content to this game.

Soldiers of the New Earth Republic that have the honor of piloting mecha are of the best of the best. The connection between man and mecha is complex. Only the fastest of minds can control the mecha to any degree of usefulness. Those kinds of minds only belong to the young. They begin at age eight, gaining skills and expertise quickly with their metal companions. They reach maximum effectiveness at age fourteen. Their skills start to degrade by age sixteen.

This places a lot of power and responsibility on minds so young. Forced to grow up a lot sooner than a normal child. The challenges are great, but it is necessary if New Earth Republic is to survive.

  • Alpha Mecha uses a color coded dice system. Each weapon has a color that corresponds to a colored die to roll. Each pilot has a gunnery skill that is also color coded to a colored die to roll (green for rookie, yellow for veteran, and red for elite). So a player will always roll at least two dice to hit.

Situations that make it easier to hit a target, such as being very close, they get their color code upgraded before they roll.  If a pilot normally rolls a yellow die, they would upgrade to red. If they were red, they would roll a red and a green.

The same works in reverse for tougher shots, but no shot can fall less than green. A pilot will always get to at least roll a green die along with their weapon die.

The color coded dice system allows for much quicker play.

  • The color code system is a simple, but effective system that speeds up gameplay. This allows players to field many more mecha on the field as they get familiar with the rules. You get to experience the tactics of many battle types because of this.
  • There are 20 configurations of mecha. Each has a different weapon and system load-out. There are 12 pilots that also have their own abilities. Each pilot/mecha combination is unique. You get to enjoy rich tactical options in the game because of this.
  • There are nine modular map boards (called battle boards) that can be placed in numerous layouts. You can make a long stretch or a wide battlefield. Either way, you get to make up your own battles.

  • Colored discs are placed under mecha as they take damage. A green disc means one hit, yellow means two, red three. Four hits and the mecha comes off the board. Players can see the damage done to the enemy quite easily. You benefit from not having to check paperwork across the table, speeding up gameplay.

  • Tactical maneuvering is of upmost importance in the game. Taking a shot to the back, can take even the largest of the mecha down. Players must plan their attacks well. This makes the small, fast mecha more than just an annoyance as in other robot games, this makes them a threat! You benefit from having your grand maneuvers pay off more often.

There are eight different factions in Alpha Mecha, each with it's own story and style. From the rough Omega Bears to the sneaky Shadow Foxes, each faction gives the game something to offer.

You can read more about each faction at the Alpha Mecha website.

Every game comes with a hard copy of the Board Game Honor Code.

The goal with the honor code is to create a standard for young gamers that will encourage a culture of integrity as they play. By having something written down and published, it serves to communicate those standards, rather than relying on the social unwritten rules, which can get murky. The influence of a firm honor code, and the people that adhere to it, will rub off on others. Having this honor code will not stop bad play entirely. It can, however, reduce the problem greatly.

Why wait? You can download a copy of the Board Game Honor Code now!

Once the project finding goes above and beyond the goal, we will go above and beyond what we will put in the game! Every $2000 that we sell, something will add something more to expand the hours of play you already will have playing Alpha Mecha.

Since combat in Aplha Mecha is fast and tactical, why not add more mecha to really have a large battle? Also, more mecha sqauds allows you to have enough weapons to create multitudes of your favorite mecha on the battlefield.

Risks and challenges

We'll be posting updates throughout the funding period, as well as during the production and fulfillment cycles. You will be kept aware of any delays or other gremlins that could slow down production.

Artwork & Design: Other than the physical product itself, funds are going toward terrific artwork to make the game stand out. We highly believe that Kickstarter gives us the opportunity to pay our artists very well. Once the project gets fully funded, our artists will get a very fair "no-haggle necessary" compensation. Any starving artists out there can appreciate this. The estimation of the wait time behind the art getting done and shipping has already been figured in, but delays may happen.

Play Testing: Alpha Mecha is very solid and has passed the playtest stages. However, there is always room for improvement and we will make changes if we see room to do so. We do not see any large changes that need to be made though.

Production & Shipping: We do not anticipate any issues. We have set the delivery times based on our allies best estimates. However, it's possible that there could be customs delays from both Europe and Hong Kong. If this happens, we will post updates to let our backers know what the situation is.
