The Play

Kelly has been waiting forever for her long-term boyfriend to just propose already, so when he suggests they see other people, she is unprepared to begin dating in the digital age. Follow Kelly’s fun and sexy journey of starting over in a world where her next love could be one swipe away.

“Suddenly Split and Swiping Over,” a 50-minute solo performance play featuring a number of characters all performed by one talented woman, is written by Tracy Held Potter, directed by Katherine Vondy, and stars Susan-Kate Heaney with additional performances by Angela Jaymes.

The Hollywood Debut & TOUR?!

After six years of producing original plays, All Terrain Theater is excited to make its SoCal debut with this 50-minute, one-woman multi-character show at the Hollywood Fringe Festival starring Susan-Kate Heaney. We’ll have a preview on June 4th and five additional performances throughout the month of June.

If all goes well, and we reach our Kickstarter funding goal by Thursday, April 28th, we’ll then take the show back to our roots in San Francisco and Berkeley with four performances in July starring Angela Jaymes

Help Us Fund This Project!

This is All Terrain Theater’s seventh season producing new work, primarily by female artists, and this will be our third Kickstarter campaign. Producing theater is a labor of love and, because ticket sales don’t cover the costs of production, the only way we can do it successfully is with the additional monetary support of our community.

Funds from this campaign will cover our remaining rehearsal and performance rental fees, payment for our artists, insurance, and necessary promotional materials.

All Terrain Theater has a history of meeting our Kickstarter campaign goals, successfully producing our shows, and delivering all Kickstarter rewards on time.

We need your help to meet our fundraising goal by Thursday, April 28th. To make sure we spend as much time as possible rehearsing instead of fundraising, we’re making this campaign short and sweet: 7 days to raise $3,000 and, with your help, we can do it!

As soon as we meet our fundraising goal on April 28th, we will smoothly sail into production for both the Hollywood Fringe and our Bay Area tour. However, if we do not meet our $3,000 goal by April 28th, we won’t receive any of the funds that were pledged to this production and we may have to cancel performances.

To support this campaign, simply review the rewards and make a selection. Once your pledge is registered, it’ll appear on our page. Your pledge will only go through if we meet our $3,000 goal, so please make your pledge now!

What are the Rewards??

The best part of making a Kickstarter campaign is coming up with and providing fun rewards for our backers!

We offer tickets to our performances for rewards starting at the $35 level (average ticket prices will vary, but the base price will be $15 per ticket). In addition to using this campaign to support our work creating exciting new theater, our backers can pre-order tickets before they go on sale to the general public on May 1st. Tickets can be used at any venue and date, but make sure to request your performance preferences early to guarantee your choice. Email tracy@allterraintheater.org to RSVP.

We were also wondering what kind of cool stuff we could provide for the show and we came up with a Sleepover Kit that includes a custom All Terrain Theater canvas tote bag (screen printed by a high quality printer in Oakland) and sleepover necessities like dental products, breath mints, and, of course, prophylactics.

But what about people like our protagonist Kelly who are looking for love and having trouble finding it? You know what? We want to help! Starting at the $125 level, Susan-Kate and Tracy will offer everything from feedback on your online dating profile, to supplying you with custom pick-up lines, to an opportunity to let us write your profile for you

Or maybe what you really want to do is know, “Did all of this really happen???” Find out by going for a drink with Tracy when you watch the show! It doesn’t take long to find yourself with an adventurous list of Tinder stories, and only some of them are making it into the show!

Most of our rewards are offered in limited quantities, so make your pledge now to guarantee that you get the reward of your choice!

Who is Working on This?

Tracy Held Potter (Writer) Despite installing Tinder on her phone the semester before her program ended, Tracy did receive her MFA and has had work produced across the country by All Terrain Theater, Pittsburgh Opera Theater, Bay One-Acts Festival, and the SF Playwrights Foundation. In 2013, she won Best of Fringe for co-writing “Babies, the Ultimate Birth Control: Terrifyingly Hilarious Plays about Parenting” with Rachel Bublitz at SF Fringe as well as Audience Choice Awards with Monday Night PlayGround. Like any single mom writer moving to LA, she’s also developing a web series, writing screenplays (she won an Alfred P. Sloan Screenwriting Award for “Science Fair the Musical”), and trying to get into television. tracyheldpotter.com @tracyheldpotter

Katherine Vondy (Director) is a Los Angeles-based writer and director whose work spans film, theater and literature. “The Fermi Paradox,” her full-length play, is the recipient of the 2015 Davey Foundation Theatre Grant, and her award-winning short film, “The Broken Heart of Gnocchi Bolognese,” has played at festivals worldwide. Recent projects include collaborations with noted LA musical comedy sketch group Lost Moon Radio and educational video company CreatorUp. The recipient of residencies from the HBMG Foundation, Vermont Studio Center, Starry Night and Wildacres, Katherine’s work has also appeared in many literary magazines and journals. She received a BA in English and Music from Amherst College as well as an MFA in Film and Television Production from the University of Southern California. katherinevondy.com @walkingdeadpan

Susan-Kate Heaney (Actor) is a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts (BFA in Drama) and a recent transplant to Los Angeles. Recent credits include Shirley in Masters of Sex, Linda in Pant Suits (with Bryce Dallas Howard) and her comedy web series Top Mop (Funny or Die). Her latest solo show Facebook with Mom has been running at Second City. Susan-Kate performs improv and sketch (Groundlings, Second City, The Comedy Central Stage) and stand-up. She is repped by Talentworks, Robyn Bluestone Management, and Peikoff Mahan Legal. susan-kate.com @sue_kate

Angela Jaymes (Actor/Understudy) is STOKED to be making her professional west coast theatre debut with All Terrain Theater. She is a recent transplant from Boston, MA and a proud alum of Emerson College. After obtaining her teaching license in Theatre in 2014, Jaymes went on to study acting at the prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Australia (2015) and most recently began studying improv at UCB in Los Angeles (2016). Her work has been recognized by the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival as well as the Independent Reviewers of New England. angela-jaymes.com

All Terrain Theater was founded in 2010 as an independent theater company in the San Francisco Bay Area, dedicated to producing original work and supporting the development of new artists. Since then, All Terrain Theater has produced 12 full productions of plays written primarily by women, including Savannah Reich, Rachel Bublitz, and Barbara Jwanouskos. All Terrain Theater also hosts an annual solo performance festival called Women in Solodarity to build the community of female writers, performers, and directors. This is All Terrain Theater’s first production in Southern California. allterraintheater.org @allterraintheat

Risks and challenges

The biggest risk that we face is that we’re producing our show in Los Angeles, where our very talented actors may receive a big acting opportunity that they can’t refuse, even if it conflicts with our performance dates. Fortunately, we are rehearsing and featuring TWO amazing actors for this one-woman show, so we will always have an incredible performance to present no matter what.

Another risk is that people might not like the play that Tracy has written. First of all, wow, that’s harsh, but worry not: people who have read early drafts of the play have said it was hilarious. Also, we have an awesome, award-winning director to make sure the show is tight and we have incredible actors who can make anything entertaining for an hour. So, there you go: it’ll be great!

All Terrain Theater has a history of completing projects on time, as promised, and delivering rewards as described on our campaign page. All we need is your support and we can deliver the rest.
