Campaign Update #32 - Rulebook, Project Improvements, and the Event Deck

Hi there backers,

Another week down so it's time for another update.

New Rulebook Draft

The latest version of the Rulebook is now live on the Kick'd Pledge Manager. As always, we encourage you to take a look and let us know in the comments what you think.

Project Improvements

Since changing up the project leads, we have seen a leap forward in the project's progression. So much that we're now on not our first, but second art revision. I'd estimate about 85-90% of all base-game art assets are locked or completed and awaiting final lock, 70% of stretch goal/expansion assets locked or completed and awaiting final lock, and the remaining revisions and assets to be provided by the end of the coming week.

Also, after some testing and back and forth, the manufacturer has given us the go-ahead on our meeple design. Check it out below.

A peek at the event cards

To ensure you get a nice new piece of the game to look at this week, here's a spread of the Event Card back and two event cards from the Test Your Metal solo-play stretch goal expansion.

To see how the Test Your Metal expansion plays, check out the rulebook on Kick'd.

That's all for this week. We'll catch you next week and, as always, thanks for backing.

@Jeff Pearce, RP is listed as Reputation Points on the second page, under Game Overview. I agree that more thematic front page would be a bonus though.

The rulebook is looking pretty solid. I think the first page could use a more interesting font for the introduction though, something more thematic. I keep seeing the term "RP" throughout the book but this is only explained on the final scoring page. I understand it's your term for Victory Points, but knowing what RP is early on should be pretty important if it's mentioned so often. I would suggest having a little pop out explaining this, perhaps one of the smiths in a word bubble.

I love that you have a quick reference on the back. Would it be too much to have player reference cards? I find someone usually hogs the rules and this can really help save people asking and slowing the game down unnecessarily.

Other than that I think the Rulebook is really close. There's not really a lot of dead space (I hate this), the art surrounding the border is beautiful and everything is looking really good.

Thanks for the update as usual. At this point I have to say that the rulebook is absolutely solid.

Other than the large amount of blank space on page 6 I noted in the previous update I did see one other thing I wanted to point out. With everything I've seen it feels like everything has a place (either marked on the board and slipped under your player board) except for the discarded Rune cards.

I admit I may be overthinking this and while you can simply just create a discard pile beside the Runesmith expansion board that doesn't seem to flow with the rest of the game. A simple solution might be to reword it such that used Rune cards are returned to the bottom of the Rune deck but if you are trying to limit the number of cards (be it for balance reasons or otherwise) this won't work.

I only mention this because if you look at a similar game, Lords of Waterdeep, that game actually includes spaces on the board for discarded cards. I'm not suggesting you need to redo any of the boards to have a space for these discarded Rune cards but it does feel out of place for them to not have a place. :)

That's all I've got for now. As always can't wait for the next update. Hopefully soon we can get a glimpse of all the cards (either as full on print and play or otherwise) so we can spell / clarity check all of those.

Is there any way to use the event deck with two players?
