What's happening with the new and improved Smiths of Winterforge?

Howdy folks. Sorry it’s been a bit quiet lately, stuff has been moving at a mile a minute and we wanted to make sure we got it right before talking to everyone.

So... where do I begin?

We were at PAXAus

As we made you aware of in our last update, we were forming a partnership we have finalised a partnership with the guys from Rule & Make. Because of this partnership, they invited us to join them down at PAX in Melbourne and boy did we see a lot of interest in Smiths of Winterforge.

I even managed to rope Penny Arcade’s own Mike Krahulik AKA Gabe into a quick explanation of the game.

We got to play Smiths of Winterforge with some attendees and get it in front of more board game bloggers to get the word out and, from what I’ve seen, the feedback is positive :)

The changes we are making to Smiths of Winterforge

So, this is the good part. What are we doing to Smiths to make the components better? First of all, we’re changing up how the game is laid out. In the original format, we had a game board that you could move your agents around on and then the cards were laid out on the table around it.

Well not anymore! We’re working with Jamie to expand the artwork out to a hexfold game board. This means you will be given prompts as to where and how many cards to place to play the game.

We’ve also fixed up some of the individual card art to make it easier to understand. For instance, we’ve added the component level to the back of the component cards, and we’ve also added the component type in the component bonus section of the contracts to help you find them.

Finally, we're currently investigating what improvements we can make to the guild boards with our manufacturer as well :)

When are we relaunching?

Now, that’s the question everyone wants to know right? Unfortunately, it’s the hardest to answer. Joining with Rule & Make also means a merged timeline to ensure everyone’s games get the maximum attention and production schedules line up for better delivery outcomes for project backers and retail distributors.

We’re still working with Allen and Alistair from Rule & Make get some final timelines in place but it’s looking like our relaunch could be anywhere between Late January to Mid March. It’s a big time frame I know. But as we work with Jamie to finish the art, and finalise what we need to with R&M, we’ll be able to give you a better relaunch date.

That’s all for this update. It will be heads-down and working-hard from here on out to make sure we bring the best product possible to you guys so the next update may not be until after Christmas/New Year as we wait for items to get finished. As always, if you have any questions, ask them here in the comments or shoot us a message :)

Thanks again for backing Smiths the first time around. Your support does mean a lot to us.

Happy Holidays :)

I love the one big game board idea, and my pocket book loves the later launch, heh. I am super excited for when this does relaunch!!

To add something productive, the one board is a great idea that gives some guidance to the game. This will also help with setup and for new players.

Thank you for the update, Dylan, it is a bit sad to see that it may not be until March that we get the next Kickstarter. However, if we have to wait we have to wait and I have confidence the game will just come back twice as strong. Damn though, I want to play this; I can only end this with https://goo.gl/images/vzKNFM
