Retooling the forge…
It's been a few days since you last heard from us about the campaign, but we have not been idle. We've spent a lot of time pondering this Kickstarter project, and how we can best deliver the game. Smiths of Winterforge has been a labour of love for both Aaron and myself and this is the type of game we've dreamed of producing even before our first, Tavern Fame.
We know that Smiths of Winterforge is a bigger, more epic game than Tavern Fame, and, with that, there are greater risks involved as well.
The response for the game so far has been really good, and for the backers that jumped in with both feet on our campaign, we deeply appreciate your belief in the game. In many ways, you are the reason we make games.
We have full confidence in the Smiths of Winterforge and truly believe it is a game that offers a unique blend of Euro-style gameplay with an immersive and epic fantasy theme. In fact, our friends at Rule & Make believe in the game so much, they are co-producing it with us.
However, having said that, we have some unfortunate news...
We are cancelling the project (for now).
But it's not all bad. Smiths of Winterforge will be back in full force and better than ever in Q1 2017, and here's why:
1. Essen was a little more successful than anticipated.
Have you ever heard the expression "Expect the worst"? Well, we did. You see, just before Smiths of Winterforge was originally slated to hit Kickstarter back in September, Table Tyrant Games teamed up with Rule & Make, and that partnership meant our games, Tavern Fame and Smiths of Winterforge, went over to Essen as part of the Rule & Make catalogue.
Now, as much as we love our games, we kinda planned for the worst and acted as if no one would want to pick it up. Turns out, we were wrong.
During Essen, Rule & Make managed to catch the eye of an international distributor, and this international distributor is interested in stock Smiths of Winterforge when it's ready to go.This means our little ol' game of dwarven blacksmiths could be going even further than we could ever have hoped.
2. Changes need to be made
To accommodate the prospect of larger distribution, we need to change a few things about the game's components to fit in with an even larger hobby market and appeal to the distributor even more. This means a bigger board and some component upgrades With further input from both the Rule & Make team, and the distributor, we will be able to improve the end product immensely.
What does this mean for you?
Smiths of Winterforge will be even better when it hits Kickstarter early next year, and you'll be the first to know about it. We'll post here when we're ready to go live.
We'll also keep you updated about the redevelopment process with periodic posts here on Kickster. Alternatively, you can like us on Facebook, or sign up to our newsletter to get regular updates about Smiths of Winterforge, as well as anything else happening in the world of Table Tyrant Games.
And, as a special thank you for supporting us this first time around, we'll throw in a little treat just for you if you back Smiths of Winterforge next year :)

PS - If you're in Melbourne for PAX Aus, swing by the Rule & Make booth for a game of Smiths of Winterforge or Tavern Fame. Aaron and I will be floating around the con too so, if you're up to it, issue us a challenge for a game if you see us :)
