About this project
An exciting new fiction project set in the Frontier Elite universe!
In March 2014, Frontier Developments will be bringing out the new Elite game- Elite Dangerous. The recent Kickstarter for this reached an impressive £1.5million pounds. As part of this, a set of different fiction works are being written and published. These are an exciting opportunity for new writers and will enrich the game universe with a wide selection of dynamic characters and stories.
With Elite: Lave Revolution; I have the chance to add a story of my own to this fantastic world. But it all depends on you!
In 3250 (Frontier First Encounters) - Dictator Doctor Hans Walden is absolute ruler of Lave and has been for more than fifty years. He seems ageless. His secretive government ruthlessly control the planet and its population.
In 3300 (Elite Dangerous)- Lave is a Democracy. What happened?
Elite: Lave Revolution tells the story of those brave men and women who risked everything to bring freedom to the people, a story of spies, dictators, revolutionaries and assassins in space. Who will lead a free world into a bright interstellar future?
I'm Allen Stroud, University Lecturer from Bucks New University in High Wycombe. I run the highly successful, Film and TV Production degree and also teach Creative Writing. I've taught a module in Writing Fantasy for nine years and have a Masters Degree in Science Fiction and Fantasy world-building. I grew up playing Elite and Frontier. For me, Elite was a world to escape to after a rubbish day at school. Like many people my age, I'd play for hours and wonder if the other ships had pilots just like me. I dreamed of generation ships, Thargoids and Space Pirates. Back then, Elite was as big as Star Wars and I think it can be again.
With your help, I can do this. Every penny given goes towards making this dream project a reality. This will be a lot of work, but it’s an incredible opportunity and one I don't want to miss, but I can't do this without you.
Here are some quotes from people who’ve read extracts of my works in progress:
“It's a great tale, very evocative, I have given my best ever scores for this manuscript. You write flawlessly, your characters are well developed and although I have not read the other books, I could follow the story easily, for an author to do this is quite an art in itself.“
“Loved it! Want to read more... I should be sorry I can't be more constructive, but I'm not, I'm delighted. It was a thoroughly good read, and some very good writing. My best wishes for this and all your writing.”
“The more I read, the more enjoyable it became.”
“Without doubt one of the best things I've reviewed on the site.”
You can find these samples and reviews on the writing website: http://www.youwriteon.com
For people unfamiliar with the Elite Kickstarter, if I get the writer's pack I will have the rights to the book and it is endorsed as official fiction, written into the game history canon. It will also be promoted with the game and will be sold via Amazon and other outlets in March 2014. What pledgers gain (as is mentioned in the update), are a variety of options unavailable to people buying the book at the end of the process.
The money contributed towards getting the writer's pack goes into the fund to develop Elite Dangerous the game. You can find their Kickstarter here and more information the game's progress on the official website.
If we pass the set target. I want to make a short film. This will be available for free and released with the book and game in March 2014. The film will be a dramatisation of a section of the book and feature excellent work from students, staff and talented friends.
This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone involved. We need your help to make it happen. Please pledge and make Elite: Lave Revolution a reality.

Risks and challenges
Writing Elite:Lave Revolution wouldn't have been possible a month ago. No-one really knew enough about the premise for the new game. Since the Elite Dangerous Kickstarter ended on the 4th of January, I've written and compiled four documents totally 52,000 words that draw together all the previously published history from the earlier games and working with the team at Frontier, plus the excellent Dave Hughes, we've compiled a detailed timeline of events, leading us to the game release in 2014.
In the last month I've re-arranged my other writing commitments to put Elite:Lave Revolution at the top of my project list.
Lave is the system we all started from in the original Elite game. It has a special place in the hearts of all of us who played Elite, Frontier and Frontier First Encounters. Lave deserves a story, a really good, epic story that can tell everyone what happened in the years between the last game and this one.
I'm confident I can deliver the novel on time. Last year, I wrote the majority of The Sword of Wisimir and the Dragon of Wisimir, a total of 100,000 words (both books are about 125,000 words between them) from March to the December publication date. The timeline on Elite: Lave Revolution is tight, but not as tight as that one was!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
