3 Hours left!
Just under 3 hours to go until Chromacon's Kickstarter finishes! We've been amazed and inspired by the support you've shown Chromacon Arts Festival 2015 and the community of artists so far, THANK YOU. Every bit counts right up to the last minute. Please consider becoming a backer and help us achieve our stretch goals and support the sustainability of future Festivals! We've got lots of cool rewards, including original artworks from amazing artists such as JAW Cooper, super exclusive art prints and 10 one-off hand-illustrated copies CHROMA Vol.2 to give away!
We're Team Chroma, organisers of Chromacon - a curated Indie Arts Festival held in Auckland, New Zealand that celebrates the coming together of community, creative independence and artistic excellence.
Here's a quick highlight video of Chromacon 2013:
As a non-profit grassroots event, Chromacon connects a broad spectrum of artists and art-lovers together in celebration of visual storytelling. It is a platform where illustrators, comic artists, concept artists, animators, game developers and more come together to share art and ideas between each other and the wider New Zealand community.
After a successful inaugural event in 2013 we're excited to bring Chromacon back, this time it's a 2-day Festival on the weekend of April 18 - 19, 2015. Once again, we are teaming up with our Venue Partner, Auckland Live to bring the Festival to you at the Lower and Upper NZI Levels at Aotea Centre and Aotea Square.
Best of all, it's a free event open to everyone!
At Chromacon, you will find original artwork and creative projects from a range of media, styles, and genres. You will also be able to purchase self-published work such as prints, art books, comics or even originals directly from the creatives themselves.
This year, we are excited to have over 100 exhibitors at Chromacon 2015. What's more, Chromacon also features live events such as live art demonstrations, artist talks, discussion panels, screenings of animation and documentaries and other experiences to build more awareness for visual storytelling in New Zealand and beyond.
The intimate nature of the event offers you the chance to meet and connect with artists you may already admire or others creating new and exciting work that you weren't aware of.
We invite everyone with an interest in art, in particular storytelling in visual and interactive mediums to come join us for an one-day celebration of Kiwi creativity. Whether you’re a fledgling artist yourself or simply curious about the amazing original artworks created right here in New Zealand, everyone’s welcome!
We've also invited 4 amazing international artists to Chromacon this year to further artistic and cultural exchange with the international creative community. We're currently working with them to collaborate on some original art and designs for you as a way of expressing our gratitude for helping to make this happen! So keep checking back and we might have new backer rewards announced soon!

BUT WHAT IF I'M NOT IN NEW ZEALAND?
Oh no! We understand this can be a bummer, (Chromacon's a great excuse to visit though!) so we want to reach out and bring art from New Zealand creatives directly to YOU! You can find a very diverse range of art works on the Chromacon 2015 gallery page here.
We're also going to produce a number of self-published items such as our festival art book Chroma Vol.2, as well as PDF's of CHROMA Vol.1, badges, stickers, shirts and other goodies as a token of our appreciation for your support! We hope you enjoy the rewards we have prepared for you as a taste of New Zealand indie arts!
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Due to the community driven, non-profit nature of Chromacon, our budget is limited, yet we are committed to sharing Chromacon with as many people as possible and providing a platform for local creatives to connect with the wider public. In order to grow the Festival so that it's bigger and better while still remaining a free event we are raising funds to help present the Festival.
We're asking New Zealand art lovers and appreciators to think about helping fund Chromacon.
Specifically, our Kickstarter funds raised will go towards:
- Chromacon bringing and hosting international artists over to Auckland. These guests are prolific international creatives who will be presenting at the Festival and Chroma Connect 2015.
- Self publishing CHROMA Vol.2, an artbook featuring the best in Kiwi illustration, comics, concept art/ design and other fields of visual storytelling, including our 2015 Exhibitors and and affiliated artists
- Kickstarter costs
- Shipping expenses
- General festival costs involved in presenting and running the event.
Chroma supporters, we need your help!
We want to grow the Festival while sticking to our kaupapa (Maori: Core values & Principles) of being an independent, non profit organisation presenting a free event. We would greatly appreciate any donations. If you attended Chromacon in 2013 and liked what you saw or you're keen to support visual arts in New Zealand please do consider becoming a backer. We've got some cool backer rewards to give away too so make sure you check them out.
Every little bit counts!

Risks and challenges
We are a small but dedicated team putting together a Festival and events around it - no stroll in the park!
Being a festival with many different components across many different mediums including artist exhibitors, live demonstrations, panels and talks, art competition, supporters' activations and international guests, it's a challenge to make sure all these things are pulled off without a hitch. Without the necessary support there's a risk that one of the great activities we have planned don't make it to the Festival.
Plus, one of the hurdles we face is getting the word out there and attracting more people to the Festival. Therefore, we're looking to program the best content in order to present a diverse and exciting experience for festival-goers.
We value the creatives who join Chromacon and the people that take the time to come out and to engage with what's on offer at the Festival. We want to make sure that everyone has a good experience and creatives' work gets a chance to shine! So, we need people passionate about the arts to consider helping us out. We appreciate every contribution towards Chromacon!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
