TripLit is an Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) lamp for active living.
TripLit’s beautiful glow comes from its OLED light source. The next generation in lighting technology is not only sustainable and energy efficient, but comes closest to natural sunlight than any other lighting sources without emitting harmful UV rays. TripLit's rechargeable battery lasts over 30 hours and can be fully charged via micro-USB in less than 4 hours.
USES AND BENEFITS
TripLit is accessible anywhere with three positions and a built-in hook! Hang it from a tree, extend it on a bleacher or flip it on the picnic table. Hang it in a closet, put it in a tent or flip it for a better lighting angle while changing a tire in the dark.
PERFECT FOR ECO-TRAVEL
TripLit uses organic LED technology, is Mercury-free and has no UV emissions, which eliminates its impact on the environment. TripLit also lasts for over 30 hours and recharges via micro-USB. Therefore, no replacement batteries are needed, so there is no waste. TripLit does not produce heat, it is safe to touch and will not cause electrical fires. It can also be charged via Alkilu’s High-Efficiency Solar Charger.
OLED technology was extremely expensive, hard to find, and unknown to the general public until now. TripLit is an affordable OLED product that will change the way people use OLED in their everyday lives.

TripLit has three dimming modes: Low, Medium and High.
Under the lowest setting, which is ideal for tents, it can stay on for over 30 hours. Under high brightness, it still lasts for over 12 hours (no heat, no bugs).
WHAT IS OLED (Organic LED)
Organic light-emitting diode (OLED) is the latest innovation in the lighting technology. OLED is 100% organic light consisted of an emitting layer that produces light in response to an electric current and 4 supporting layers. OLEDs are thin, transparent, flexible, and energy efficient. Alkilu is the first company that uses OLED technology to create portable lighting devices for everyday life.
In comparison to LED based products you see everywhere today, which are point light sources, OLED is a thin layer that produces a diffused light source that has no shadows and is soothing to the eyes.
TripLit does not heat up like other lights, so it is always safe to touch and won’t cause electrical fires. TripLit also produces zero UV emissions – it will not attract insects to your tent at night, is better for the skin, and helps avoid early wrinkles.

TripLit's insides consist of an OLED panel, lithium polymer battery, and a controller board that manages the dimming feature, as well as charges the battery, power switch, and finally the housing that includes the integrated hook functionality.
You will get your TripLit in its consumer packaging which will come with one custom micro-USB cable and a USB charger. Here is a sneak preview of the flat package that is ready for production:
WHERE ARE WE IN THE PROJECT
We have working prototypes of the product - all lighting used in the video above was done with prototypes of TripLit. We have manufacturers identified and product design is 99% complete. At this stage, we are looking for your help in funding this project to take TripLit from prototype into production.
The funds raised in this campaign will be used to finalize the designs, produce the consumer packaging and to place the initial large volume orders with our manufacturing partners. The $50,000 is the minimum we need to get started on production; majority of the funds will be used for:
- Fabrication of molds
- Fulfillment of orders
- Meet minimum manufacturing quantities. This campaign is fixed type - we get the funds only if we reach our goal. If not, all the contributions will be returned to folks who pledged.

Where is the light panel for the TripLit light made? Who makes the OLED light panel used in the TripLit light? Is the maker of the light panel licensed by Universal Display to make the product? The TripLit OLED Panels are made by LG Chem which we established a partnership with a couple of years ago. I know both companies have had their own methods of developing OLEDs yet they started to collaborate a number of years ago to improve the technology. As for IP or licensing, there are aspects of the technology which both have developed but I would not go as far to say LG Chem fully licenses from UD for making this product.
What is the TripLit in the video? The TripLit you see in the video is a prototype.
What makes TripLit eco-conscious? The lighting panel in TripLit uses organic LED technology. TripLit can be charged using a portable solar panel, when there is no access to electricity.
How long does it take to charge the battery? A completely depleted battery in the TripLit will take less than 4 hours to fully charge.
Do you provide an EU charger? We provide a standard USB charger that will work internationally (110V-220V) but will require the adapter head replaced to fit the country. You can also use your smartphone charger or our solar chargers to charge the TripLit.
When the light is dimmed- what are the ranges of brightness/power consumption/possible duration? The TripLit battery is a 5500mA LiPo which is tested to light the OLED for around 30 hours at lower power and over 12 hours at high power. The TripLit is tuned to emit between 100-350 lumens. Please keep in mind that OLED lighting is more diffused/distributed lighting compared to LED products so it requires less overall power to light its surroundings.
How much does TripLit weigh? TripLit weighs 7.5 oz. (210gr).
How big is the panel used in TripLit? The OLED lighting panel measures 4” x 4” (100mm x 100mm).
What is included in the TripLit package? The TripLit comes with one custom micro-USB cable and USB charger.
Is the TripLit water resistant? The current model is not waterproof, nor water resistant. However it can easily be water sealed and treated similar to smartphone devices. Future models will be water resistant.
Can I get a refund? According to Kickstarter policy, contributions are non-refundable. However, your credit card will only be charged when the campaign reaches and exceeds its goal at the end. We will contact you thereafter to confirm your shipping address - if a refund is requested, we can review it on a case-by-case basis.

Risks and challenges
We have built trust and established great partnerships with different companies that are responsible in meeting our high standards to make this project a success. The TripLit light has components sourced both domestically as well as from overseas. Although it's going to take some time, we strive to finalize all the manufacturing details to ultimately bring assembly and production to the US. We have prototypes to prove the mechanical aspects so we are confident, however there could be challenges with mechanical design for the hinge.
We are targeting a delivery date in the September timeframe based on starting the manufacturing process in July, integration & assembly, QA, packaging & shipping to warehouse and finally delivery of the products to you.
