The Movielife are one the most underrated artists of the Drive Thru Records era. Sure they toured with New Found Glory and played in front of packed arenas, but the truth is they just never seemed to garner the sort of mainstream attention that Allister, The Starting Line and the other aforementioned artists seemed to receive. That's partially why I want to pay the band a bit of respect by having a handful of already established artists and a few up-and-coming bands participate on a tribute to what I consider to be one of the premier artists to have ever graced the stage. The other reason behind the compilation is a purely selfish one. The Movielife was the first artist I ever saw perform live at a now abandoned indie venue in San Diego called The Scene. After seeing The Movielife perform that night and close with what is in my opinion one of the finest songs I've ever heard live in 'Walking On Glass', they forever earned a place in my heart and in my iPod. Unfortunately their run as a band wasn't nearly as long as it should of been. That's why I'm hoping that I'll guide a few new fans towards the now defunct band so that there might be an increased awareness and appreciation for a talented artist that flew under the musical radar of the majority but more than deserves to be recognized as one of the best bands of the decade.
If you're not familiar with some of the previous compilations that Pacific Ridge Records has put together you can anticipate a sprinkling of new contributing talent like Young London, Fourth Quarter Comeback, My Arcadia and The Lion Faced Boy. You can also expect a good number of already established bands that just want to pay their respect to an artist that was influential in their own musical career. Some of these notable artists include Anarbor, The Scene Aesthetic, Plug In Stereo, Koji, onelinedrawing, That's Outrageous!, Promise of Redemption, Bright and Early and many more.
I want to make it crystal clear that this compilation will be released whether this Kickstarter succeeds or not. If the Kickstarter is a success it simply means that there will be an additional three or four artists added to the project, more of your favorite Movielife songs will be covered and most importantly it means that the album will be released this Fall as opposed to 2013. The entirety of the backing of this Kickstarter will go to properly compensate the artists that are contributing their talents.
To sum this project up, I'm simply a one man crew running an indie label with way too much of a desire to release new music and with an inability to fund all the talent that deserves to be heard. Luckily Kickstarter is a method to assist these hard working bands to pay the bills so they can not only create a new song for this compilation but so they can continue to focus on their own creative endeavors as well.
