After the madness of DC Fashion Week I couldn't get the thought out of my mind that it would be awesome to see a fashion show where all of the models were cancer survivors...and thus AliveAgain! was born. I am a model and cancer survivor. For me it's not just about putting on a show. It's about helping men and women fight back against cancer, and feel beautiful and alive again. It's about giving past, present and future cancer survivors hope, as well as raising awareness that life doesn't stop with a cancer diagnosis, and we can and will feel Alive Again!
"If I could tell my fellow fighters one message, it’s this: No one wants to feel like a patient. Take your treatments seriously, but do what you can to feel in control of your condition. Refuse to wear hospital gowns, if they are not necessary. Wear makeup or clothing that lets you feel beautiful and pretty...There is a power of beauty in all of us that will win over the ugliness of disease." - Dara Insley
Your donations will help fund production of this runway fashion show in April 2015 in the metropolitan DC area. It will help secure our venue space so that we can finalize the event date and begin promoting the show. Our KickStarter video was put together through generous donations of time, talent and expertise. The MUAs, videographer, video editor, photographer and graphic designer all donated their services. Thank you Omar Juarez and Bad/Splice, LeRoy Armstead, Playing in Paint, VAJ Designs and Studio Arto!
Our goal of $2,000 will secure event space with capacity for 200 people. We will film the runway show documentary style to highlight the entire experience and what it meant for the survivors. With your help in meeting and exceeding our goal, we will be able to fund videography and editing, lighting, stage, furniture rental, DJ, decorations, storage, audio visual needs, posters, flyers, and food and beverage for the event. Proceeds from tickets sales will be donated to thePrevent Cancer Foundationin support of raising awareness about preventative care. Our "dream big" goal? Raise enough money to start a nonprofit so that we can produce a fashion show every year, as well as other fundraisers for cancer survivors such as awards banquets, live music events, and art shows.
We are asking not only for your donations, but also for your participation. If you would like to be a part of this show we are still welcoming cancer fighting models, fashion designers that want to showcase their work, MUAs, hairstylists, photographers, artists, and donations of products and services, such as videography, video editing, photography, runway heels, accessories, and promo items. Just send an email to AliveAgainCasting@gmail.com.
Most importantly this is for the AliveAgain! models who have decided to put their stories out there. They are the most AMAZING people I have EVER met. There is the insanely fit Dara Insley who drove to DC from North Carolina for the video shoot, read more about her here, Dara Insley, Rebecca Ward who worked on the filming of the documentary "N.E.D." a movie about 6 gynecology oncology surgeons who have a rock band, and currently supports 3 women with uterine cancer through Imerman Angels, and our guy Mike Garlington who is currently fighting Ewings Sarcoma, just to name a few. Learn more about these real life superheroes on our Facebook Page and follow us on Twitter @AliveAgainShow.
If you know that no matter what you've gone through or are currently going through you are perfectly imperfect, and in pursuit of your dreams then this is the project for YOU! Speaking of perfect, our show's special guest, recording artist Deborah Bond has a new music video that aligns perfectly (pun intended) with our theme. She has donated signed copies of her latest album. With the continued support of our generous friends we know this show will be a hit!
Risks and challenges
Failure to plan is a plan to fail. As with any production, set backs can occur. Models may fall ill or decided not to do the show, orders could be delayed, the team could fall apart. A million things could happen, but I am casting a wide network of supporters that want to see this show. By making this a community project it ensures that everyone is vested in the show's success.
Once this project is funded our event space will be immediately secured. We will have another casting call so that we ensure there are enough models, MUAs, designers and stylists to put on a great show. This show has been in planning since February 2014. During that time we have garnered the support of the Prevent Cancer Foundation, LeRoy Armstead Photography, BadSplice video production company, Playing in Paint MUAs, and many more. A lot of hard work has already gone into this project and there is much more to come.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
