I like to make movies about complicated characters who do absurd but authentic things.
Gene (Kentucker Audley) - born without a social filter - spends his days canvassing door-to-door, tactlessly railing strangers about childhood obesity and the billions of dollars wasted each year on junk food subsidies. After being kicked out of his ex-wife’s house, Gene meets a peculiar young man named Titty (Olly Alexander), an emotionally arrested 19 year old who has sued his own father to win back his inheritance. Gene is desperately in need of a new friend, especially a friend of means like Titty. Gene soon discovers that Titty has an ongoing online relationship with the intriguing and beautiful Ginger (Kate Lyn Sheil), who is a zealous animal activist shut-in. Ginger is a member of a group of activists, lead by Alex Karpovsky, who are battling factory farming, in particular confinement hog farming.
Gene convinces Titty to make a pilgrimage to meet Ginger. After making camp in an empty lot across from her house, the boys use psychology and guile to steadily insinuate themselves into her hermetic existence. Gene quickly begins to fall for the enigmatic Ginger, despite the fact that his goal was to deliver her up to his new friend Titty. But Ginger has no intention of being delivered up to anybody.
Funny Bunny tells the story of how three afflicted people help each other find the elusive path to happiness they thought was all but lost, and what a funny and touching ride it is on the way.
This story has lingered in my head for a number of years and refuses to go away.
Fortunately, the story has also infected a wonderful team of producers, actors, and collaborators who now have the same story kicking around in their heads and are eager to see it on the screen.
And it’s time to make the movie.
These days, it’s hard to maintain creative control over a film. Commercial considerations can cause you to abandon your original story or water it down. By joining this Kickstarter campaign, you will empower a truly independent film, a purely conceived work of art, to come to life. With your energy we can make this movie. Without your contribution, it can’t happen. We’re ready to make it appear in the 2014 festival season and whether it does or not could be up to you.
Our team’s previous movies have played at film festivals across the United States, including Sundance, SXSW, AFI, San Francisco International, Tribeca, LAFF, and Sarasota to name a few; and at festivals across Europe in Cannes, Sweden, Poland, at the London BFI.
So we’re asking you to join our team this time around. You’ll be in talented company: with our producers Ted Speaker, Vinay Singh, and Gene Park; our actors Kate Lyn Sheil, Kentucker Audley, Olly Alexander, Alex Karpovsky Caridad De La Luz, Victoria Clark, and Halley Feiffer, among others. Casting consultant is Ellen Parks C.S.A., who cast such Indie classics as SIDEWAYS, SECRETARY, FLIRTING WITH DISASTER and SPANKING THE MONKEY.
Together we share a singular commitment to put the project first and make something of lasting artistic value. Making a movie is kind of like holding hands and jumping off a cliff together – it's a massive leap of faith. Join hands and take the leap with us on FUNNY BUNNY. When our collective light finally hits the screen, you’ll be a part of it. And you’ll feel the glow. And you'll be able to say, "I helped make that cool movie!"
Risks and challenges
FUNNY BUNNY is my most ambitious project yet. Our cast and crew are graciously accepting bare bones salaries and our grip and lighting package is being donated through a generous grant by Eastern Effects through Rooftop Films, providing us the opportunity to make an accomplished, fully realized film for a fraction of what it should cost. The amount we're asking for here will cover a little over half our production costs and will go directly towards:
Food & Lodging for cast and crew
Production Design & Props
Costumes, Wardrobe and Makeup
Location Fees (namely, a pig farm!)
Now is where you come in, our most important contributor. Because with you the movie becomes REAL.

CAN I INCREASE MY PLEDGE ONCE IT'S BEEN MADE?
Yes! Once you donate to our campaign, you may want to change your incentive reward to a different one, or increase your pledge amount. To do so, go to Kickstarter and sign in. If you go to our campaign page, the green “Back This Project” button has been replaced with a blue “Manage Your Donation” button. Click it and you can enter a new amount, or choose a new incentive.
CAN WE EXCEED THE GOAL?
Yes! Exceeding the goal will help us pay for more of the costs to make the film.
IS MY PLEDGE AMOUNT PUBLICLY DISPLAYED?
No. Only you and the project owner will be able to see your pledge amount.
I'M NOT IN THE US, CAN I STILL PLEDGE?
Yes, you can pledge from anywhere.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE MONEY ISN'T RAISED IN TIME?
If our goal isn’t met before the deadline, we don't receive any of the pledges. Your credit or debit card will not be charged.
HOW CAN I CONTACT YOU?
