** UPDATE 11/13 We reached our goal with 60 hours to go. Now every dollar raised will help us get our film farther out into the world! (Details in the FAQ) THANK YOU for your continued support! Let's see how far we can go! **
North Pole, NY is a documentary feature about Santa's Workshop, one of the very first theme parks in the U.S.
Santa's Workshop was founded in 1949, and created a theme park boom in the Adirondacks. By 1963, when the family road-trip vacation was at its peak popularity, there were over a dozen theme parks for families to visit in the Adirondack park. Santa's Workshop is the last theme park from the 1950's that remains in upstate New York.
This film is a way to preserve this piece of roadside Americana for future generations and inspire other towns to preserve these historic places.
We are a totally independent, two-person documentary team. Our film is the result of numerous people donating their time, resources and expertise, and here in the home stretch, we need to hire a few additional people to get the film mastered and all the licenses cleared to be able to release the film to YOU. We are so close, and with YOUR HELP we'll be able to bring this piece of vintage roadside Americana to the BIG SCREEN.

LET ME SEE THESE REWARDS:
WHY WE ARE MAKING THIS FILM
ALI, director: As a child in the 80's and 90's, all of my family’s vacations were to theme parks and roadside attractions. I was part of the last generation to experience a pre-Internet childhood and there’s something truly magical about that. I believe that all that time I had to dream and play make-believe as a child made me the artist I am today. As I began filming, it became clear that the decline of places like Santa’s Workshop is part of larger stories about economic dislocation in small town America, and the ceding of childhood imagination to corporatized and digitized fun. If theme parks, and Santa Claus himself, are fueled by the magic of believing, our film asks “What will we lose as a culture if we let places like Santa’s Workshop disappear?”
CHRISTA, producer: Only 5% of the theme parks left in America are independently-owned -- most of these places have consolidated into giant amusement park chains or water parks. This mirrors the closing of mom-and-pop businesses across many industries. As a historian, my hope is that by sharing this inspirational story of a town that is trying to keep a theme park alive, others will follow. We must fight to preserve the historical and local places that make our communities unique.
WHEN WILL THE FILM BE FINISHED? WHERE CAN I SEE IT?
We are submitting to festivals right at the end of this campaign! The premiere will be in the spring or summer of 2018, depending on which festival we premiere at. We then plan to tour with the film, and release it through DVD and digital platforms. As our Kickstarter backer, you will be one of the very first people to see the film, as digital downloads and DVD will ship out directly after its festival premiere to backers first.
THE MAXIMUM DONATION I SEE HERE ON KICKSTARTER is $10,000, BUT I WANT TO DONATE MORE THAN THAT.
Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org so we thank you personally from the very, very bottom of our hearts. And yes, we have tax-deductible options through our fiscal sponsor, IFP, at this level.
Risks and challenges
Documentary filmmaking is truly a labor of love. We have mitigated the financial risk by waiting until the very end of our fundraising cycle to launch our Kickstarter. The film is shot and edited, and if we raise the money for these finishing costs, we will release it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
