I've written & recorded the songs for SHE, after 7 years, leaving a major label & having a baby. Finally its time to share it with you!
Hi, I'm Alice.
I am a singer, songwriter, mother, and food lover.
The Last After
After I released my first album, For Lovers, Dreamers and Me, on BBE Records in 2006, I signed to Epic Records. I struggled within the restraints. For the first two years they refused to support me recording music, or even touring. Then when a new president came, I thought it was my big chance to escape and make music again. But no, this new president didn't want to let me go. Then started a very stressful year of writing with random people, with unrealistic and imposed expectations. It was so hard for me to say yes to these ridiculous notions about how to "make a hit", but I was trying all the time to learn patience and compromise. I would cry and scream 'no', and then wonder what I really wanted. Always the answer was to make music, so I continued on the corporate wheel. After a year, we agreed on an album and mastered it. I thought that when it finally came out, I would call my second album The Last After. As in no more waiting! But alas, it wasn't to be. After 4+ years of trips to the dreaded Sony building, they decided not to release the album that I did in my last year, and we agreed to part ways. What a blessing!
Happily at the same time, I found out that I would be having my first child. The one thing I always did, was play and sell out shows. I continued through as much of my pregnancy as I could. I continued to write and record songs with Syience Perry and Rebecca Jordan. I had met them separately towards the end of my time at Epic, and trusted them both from the moment I met them. That almost never happens to me with people because I'm so protective of myself. Anyway, songwriting was/is effortless with the two of them, and very productive. I loved it so much that, as soon as I could, we all went to write. After that I had MORE songs to choose from. That was LAST July..
After we recorded the songs, I moved with my family to Los Angeles for a year. Loved it. Next to the beach, Farmer's Market, the weather! Still, it was enormously frustrating for me personally that the songs were not mixed until right before I moved back to New York from California.
We moved back to faithful Brooklyn. Beautiful Park, Botanical Gardens, New York, the FOOOOD. I decided that I would put the new songs out ASAP. I decided a good time would be July. How to do it? Publicity, marketing, label, artwork?? First I thought I found the perfect home for my EP. I worked with a distribution company for a few months, before realizing days before the scheduled release, it was NOT what I thought, and it was not going to work out. This was a very good thing, though frustrating, to say the least. It was discouraging. So I decided that, because of the time that had passed, I would scrap the EP plan. Instead I would put out a full length album at the top of the year. That would give me enough time to do all the things that need to be done, hire a publicist, a marketing company, compile artwork and content, press up some CDs, put it in the street, and sell it at shows. Basically, do what I can personally do. Since then I have been introduced to and begun talks with a new company. It looks good. We have decided that to get me to this early 2013 release date will cost at least $40k. They have $15k to contribute. So I have to come up with the rest.
So here we are friends! at Kickstarter. Trying to make a dollar out of 15 cents.. All the heartbreak and frustration that is an artistic life, has brought me to this very exciting place. I've always felt guilty about not having put out an album for so long. Now it seems I've found a way to finally get the music to you!! It's so important to me that those people who have supported me all these years know how much they have meant to me. The best way I can see to show you is to do everything I can to share the recorded music with you. Any financial contribution you can send will be greatly appreciated and put to brilliant use. If we make our goal of $15k or more, SHE will be out in early 2013.
Kickstarter Goal: $15,000
This Kickstarter campaign is in an effort to raise $15,000 to put towards the release of my new album entitled 'SHE'. 'SHE' is a 10 song LP that I plan to release at the top of 2013. Its been 7 years in the making and I am so excited for it to finally be released out into the world.
The Ultimate Goal: $40,000
The ultimate goal here is to get the album completely mastered, packaged, and out to the public. That means paying for marketing, distribution, publicity, artwork, photographs, touring, etc. Our current budget says on the leaner side that we need around $40,000 to do all of that.
Everyone who donates $1 receives my unending gratitude and a virtual high five for all of your commitment to this campaign.
