Alex's Blooper Video

Posted by Alex Woolfson (Creator)

WOOT! Y'all did it! Thanks to your stunningly amazing generosity,we've just hit $20,000 and that means I've just added another little red dot to the Bonus Goals chart:

Looks like it's time for me to post my bloopers from when I made the Kickstarter video! :D

But first, before I show you just exactly how goofy a very nervous Alex can be, I'd like to say a few things...

First of all, and most importantly, I want to say thank you. We're just twelve days into this Kickstarter project and I am simply floored by your kindness. Here's the thing: I don't know any famous people to promote this Kickstarter page. I'm certainly not in any way famous myself. I have no publicity team. Nothing like that.  I'm just this guy, y'know? And that you all would believe in this comic and what I'm trying to do here—that we'd be able to raise $20,000 in 12 days for a webcomic with gay heroes. Well, that's something I never thought I'd ever see. And you made it happen—with your generous backing and with your amazing ability to get the word out. I'm deeply, deeply touched by your generosity and support.

Over the past week, I've already gotten a little media attention—people are beginning to notice the success this campaign has been having—so it's possible that others (maybe even major media companies) could see there's a real audience for this kind of work and perhaps be inspired to make more stories like this in the future. And you will have been the ones who made that happen. And as someone who has craved to see these kind of stories his whole life, I'm deeply grateful to you for that as well.

So again, thank you so much!

Secondly, a request: we're almost halfway through the project and I've noticed that in other projects, this can be where the momentum starts to slip. As I've said all along, getting the word out is the hardest part. Now, I've seen through my Kickstarter stats that the majority of new backers—the ones who have never heard of Artifice before—find their way here through the Kickstarter Discover (Popular) page. And the only way to stay on that page is if pledges come in consistently. So, if you can please keep spreading the word through your Facebooks and Twitters and Tumblrs and friends, you'd not only be helping me with my comics but you'd also be doing a lot to keep a project that champions gay heroes on the radar. Which would be very cool. :)

Finally, just a small bit of news: based on backer requests, I've added a couple new rewards at the $150 and $175 level that include all FOUR of the prints I'll be sending out for this project. So, if that would be something you'd like, you can easily change your reward choice at any time by logging into your Kickstarter account.

Well, gosh, can you tell I'm stalling? LOL All righty then!  Time for me to share the video my friends say shows "the real Alex". (Hmmmmmm.)

And now I have a confession to make: even though I am, at heart, a very private person, after all you've done, the thought of you all laughing along with me because of this video actually puts a big smile on my face. So I find myself actually looking forward to sharing this with you. Another way y'all have surprised me. :D

So I hope you like it! Please let me know what you think!

Until next time!

P.S.  Special thanks to Nickolas T. for putting us over the top for this goal!

xD Your video reminds me so much of myself when I was recording my voice for a podcast interview recently. I had so many outtakes of this sort. Nice to know I'm not the only awkward one XD

This was hilarious. I am so glad you posted it.

0:24 - 0:27 was hysterical, for the record. Then again, I've got the maturity of a 12-year-old, so maybe it was just me. 1:08 - 1:18 was also pretty amazing.

      This was super-fun to watch.

Awww, Alex! That was so adorkable! What's not to love about a creative, talented guy who can laugh at himself and naturally attracts cute animals? Thank you for sharing this with us; it was fun to watch!

@Cotina: Y'all are so awesome, it really is my pleasure. :) I'm glad you liked the video!

@Elizabeth: Hehe. A "wee sweetie", huh? Now that's something I don't think I've ever been called before. :D

@Ileandra: "Cute." "Adorable." "Wee sweetie." It's all good. My days earning a living as a sumo wrestler are long behind me. :) I'm very glad you enjoyed the blooper reel. And thank you so much for the kind words—and for getting the word out! Both are very much appreciated!

    14. Ileandra Young on

You are so cute, Alex! Not sure if that's what you want to hear, but I've loved having the chance to see this blooper reel.
The man behind the story, who draws in adorable dogs and spouts T-Rex jokes has made my evening.
I think its time to add another post to Twitter & FB about your campaign. MORE PEOPLE MUST KNOW!

    15. Elizabeth Scott on

You are such a wee sweetie!

Oh my gosh,Alex. You were so adorable and funny throughout this reel. I smiled the whole way through. Thank you for being willing to share this side of youself with us.

      @Becky: Aw, thank you. You're a sweetheart!

@Gary: Thank you! And yes, we're on the same page with what's in your "typical" action movie. Be nice to see some different options. Glad you're enjoying Artifice! :)

@Summer: LOL Glad you liked the T-Rex AlexHumor. ;) And I'd LOVE to see Artifice made as a film. Alas, it would take quite a bit more than 50K to see that happen. But I like the way you're thinking! :D

@Ayella: Hehe! That's awesome! And thank you for the props re: my performance in the regular video. I spent a lot of time in the edit hoping to create just that effect. As you can see here, though, I'm not exactly what you would call a One-Take-Wonder. ;) My good pal Patrick (who shot the video) was very patient.

@Brian: You're very welcome! Yep, being on camera is a trip. It's hard not to get the giggles. ;) And yes, I'd love to be able to do that bonus comic!

@Ana: Glad to hear the vid made your day! And I'm also glad to hear you're working on your own story with a gay hero. That's awesome! :D

    18. Anakin Michele on

This made my day. I really enjoyed reading your comic, and you're right. There absolutely should be stories about character who just happen to be gay. I'm struggling to write one myself.

      Brian Wey on

Thanks for sharing with us Alex! It's always hard to talk on camera IMO. One time I had to I thought I was nervously laughing too much.

So glad that the kickstarter is still going strong! Hopefully it hits $25k and we get a bonus comic!

      Ayella on

Wow, Alex, you made me smile so broadly, my cheeks just crampted up. Also, it made me appreciate too how hard you worked to get that Kickstarted video up. The end result looks so smooth, you'd think it was done in a jiffy.

    21. Summer El-Khayyat on

::wipes away tears of joy:: Oh, Alex, oh need to create a video where you have the t-rex arms now. Seriously. That part just floored me and I had to pause the video to giggle maniacally.

Also, if you hit 50K or higher...would you MAKE that film?

    22. Gary Jordan on

You did great, I know how you feel. The hero was always a womanizer. And if any Gays were in the story, they were just sterotypes. I love Artifice.

    23. Becky on

(For context re: my excessive excitement, my YouTube "about me" is "I'm just zis girl, you know?")

Also, if this video shows "the real you", then I judge that your friends have chosen well in having you as a friend. :)

    24. Alex Woolfson 2-time creator on

@AmhChic: You're very welcome. And thank you for the kind words! :D

@Meghan: Hehe. You're welcome. I'm glad to hear it made you happy. :) (And yes, Patrick's dogs were very cute.)

@Wayne: Thank you! Yes, the dogs totally did, didn't they? :D And an Artifice film, yep, that would be a lovely thing....

@Kelli: You're very welcome! I'm really glad that it gave you a chuckle. It is... a trip to see and hear myself on camera. Heh. Thank you very much for the props!

I totally giggled my butt off! Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Died tragically in a burst of flames! :D I love it! You're just fine on camera (better than you think you are, I think) but it's completely normal to go "ack awkward!" (I'm the same way; I hear my voice played back and I think I sound like a teenage boy...)

    26. Missing avatar

      Wayne Woods on

I love it Alex. :) The dogs did steal the show towards the end :) And maybe one of your bloopers should be real... make an Artifice film ;)

Good lord I'm still giggling. Thanks, Alex! Blooper reels always make me happy, and this one was adorable! *coos at dogs*
