Hi, I am Alex Serra (also known as Gato Suave), musician and audiovisual artist from Barcelona. I need your support to release my debut album and to produce 2 music videos.
I started making music back in 2006. I was terrified to sing in public so I began to sing cover songs on Youtube. To my surprise I received so much support from people all over the World, and it encouraged me to continued sharing. It's been 13 years and 155 songs so far.
When Youtubers asked me 'when are you going to release an album?' I didn't know what to answer, I didn't feel ready to make my own music. In 2012 I decided to quit my "normal life" and travel the world to find inspiration for my songs.
The last seven years of my life have been incredibly challenging and transformational. I met people that encouraged me to face my fears and to start sharing my talent with more confidence. I fell in love with my wife Anita in Argentina, who became a super powerful influence for me. I joined an African pop band in South Africa called Native Young, traveled all over the country and toured Europe with them. These experiences transformed the way in which I see the world.
In 2016 everything changed for me. Anita and I were banned from South Africa and we were forced to face a big change in our lives. We decided to move to Barcelona and start something new.
I decided to leave 'Native Young' since I wasn't allowed back in the country, and I began to focus on creating my own songs. A year later I had a collection of songs inspired by all the experiences I had gone through.
Shortly after I met an amazing producer called Toti Arimany (producer for artists such as Manu Chao and Macaco). We connected from day one and he brought a whole new dimension to the project. We are working together on my debut album titled 'In the Real World' that we truly believe is going to inspire many people all over the world. It's a blend of Soul, Organic electronic beats, and loads of experimental flow.
Here are the artists that we are working with:
Marty Trystram is a super talented comic artist from France I met in one of my travels. I fell in love with his unique style and asked him to design the artwork for the album. We got together to imagine a fantasy landscape for the cover and the interior of the CD. A space where imagination can run wild. It's going to be epic!
When I was a kid I used to watch MTV music videos for hours and I would dance in front of the TV like a superstar. It's been my life long dream to record my own music videos. Now I have a beautiful opportunity to create a Universe of music and visuals with this album.
The last two years in Barcelona have been fascinating because I met a lot of inspiring artists that I want to work with in the music videos I want to create.
I met Pau Arnal & Kenya Sauer, two mindblowing dancers who introduced me to a huge community of dancers in Barcelona. I met Na Lua, a hipnotic visual artist with whom I started creating shows combining music and visuals. I met Aleix Barba and Marc Sirisi from RVFilms, two amazing videographers with whom I began to experiment with music and film.
We recently got together with all of them plus a team of dancers: Manel Cabeza, Irene Baeza, Aina Lanas, Miriam Salvador; and a production team with: Anitta Moon & Gaby Francisco. And we recorded the footage for what is going to be the first video of the project.
Here's a little snippet of what we are cooking:
I want to create videos that inspire and give courage to people, to go beyond their limits, to appreciate the incredible beauty there is in this World, and to bring humans together.
I need your support to finish this project! To release the album and the first 2 music videos.
I have been working on this music for more than two years now, since I began to compose the songs. Now I am working with a huge team of artists on the making of the album and the first two music videos of the project.
I need money to finish the production and promotion of the album and the first music video, and to start with the production of the second video.
I need to pay all the artists involved in the project, and I want to keep working and developing this project with them: musicians, dancers, videographers, visual artists, production team... And I also need to cover expenses for equipment rental, logistics and promotion of the project.
This is an ambitious project and I really believe that it can have a powerful impact. But I can't do it on my own!
I need your help to be able to make a difference and to stand out in today's music industry.
Here's how the expenses will work out:
I've put together beautiful rewards for all the supporters of the project.
All of the supporters of the project will appear in the credits of the CD and the music videos as co-producers.
- You can get a digital copy of the album or a physical copy of the CD signed by myself, or both.
- We can get together for a private online Singing Session.
- And here are some more unique goodies:
Playing for people is one of the most rewarding things I ever experinced. I would love to get to know you and play for you and your friends. It could be in your livingroom, at your bar, your music venue, your birthday party, or even at your wedding. We can even organize a private Online concert.
It could be in my hometown of Barcelona, and I can also travel to your country anywhere in the world. You will also get 2 'In the Real World' (Full Bags) with a signed CD, a Songbook, 3 stickers and a Tote Bag.
I appreciate you all so much for your support and I am so excited to share my music with you.
Risks and challenges
This is my first Kickstarter and it's already proven to be a big challenge for me. Creating the videos, writing the text, thinking about the rewards, it has been a big learning curve for me. I am fortunate to be working with my friend Gaby Francisco who is an awesome campaign manager, and I am very confident that, no matter what, this is going to be a huge success.
I will do my very best to deliver all the goodies in time. I ask you to be patient because I will do it with my very hands, one by one.
The biggest challenge in this project is to organize such a huge team of artists. All of them have a pretty full agenda and are constantly working in different projects. The budget for my project is already very tight and it is very minimal for the amount of time and energy that it requires.
I want to specify that if we were to go over the goal, this is what would happen.
- Project goal (7.000€): I will be able to release the album and 2 music videos. And it will be absolutely amazing.
- Stretch goal#1 (10.000€): I will be able to include more artists into the project, with higher wages. Create beautiful visuals for the videos and live shows. And also have access to better quality equipment, like film cameras, lighting; and be able to rent out singular spaces to create cinematic looking scenes.
- Stretch goal#2 (15.000€): Better and better work flexibility and higher quality results. Will be able to bring a lot of people together to create transformational art.
- Stretch goal#3 (20.000€ or more): It's free to dream. I have this idea to create a whole movie that will weave together all the songs from the album. A kind of audiovisual psychedelic trip.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
